I was told that fitting a light crank pulley will damage the crank thrust bearing. As the point of a rubberised harmonic crank pulley is to dampen vibration. Otherwise Subaru would have used a solid pulley as they're cheaper to make. Stick with a Subaru one.

I too have the RCM set & with a Fidanza flywheel it is much more free revving. The pulley set is easy to fit if you know what you are doing. However my engine builder warned me that although it won't actually cause a sudden failure, it can cause the shells to ware out more quickly.

Not worth the hassle.
You'll gain negligible gains on faster revving, especially in 1st and 2nd gear, but a lighter pulley will actually put more stress on the crank as it is designed to have the weight of the standard crank pulley on the end. This is one of those mods where just because you can do it, doesn't mean you should do it. Just so you can say "yeah, lightened pulleys" in the pub, for anything other than a race engine, it's simply a poor gain vs risk modification. Leave it alone.

Ive switched to a lightweight around a year ago and had no ill effects. Couldnt notice any difference though.
The reason i changed though was because the o/e dampened pulley fell to bits. Wasnt very nice, all of a sudden loosing the power steering at speed. It went with one hell of a bang. Lucky it didnt do any other damage.
