Default Engine dies randomly.

I have a V2 WRX with cat back exhaust and ESL daughter board.
My problem is the car will die occasionally, for no apparent reason. If I'm travelling at speed when it happens I don't get any power at all (the engine is not firing) until is springs back to life. If it happens at a junction, the engine will die and not start again until I'm on my 4th or fifth attempt. It just dies!
So far, I have checked and cleaned the MAF, TPS and Idle control valve, and run the onboard diagnostics (which doesn't report any faults, despite the engine light coming on when the motor dies).
Anyone got any ideas?

Edited to add that the problem always happens at low rpm (less than 3k) and when I'm just pootling about (not on boost).

Possibly, thanks.
I'll check for leaks in the morning and see what I can find...
Any other ideas?

No worries. If I can narrow it down it will help so much with fault finding. These inconsistent "bugs" can be a nightmare to find...

No, mine was temperamental for quite some time before it threw out an error code.

Interesting. I'll have to look into it. Are there any diagnostic tests that you can do with a cam sensor?

Thanks, I'll take a look at that as well. Would that show up if I disconnected it while running?

Yup, mine was a partially melted fuel pump electrical connector.
