Default Locating engine/transmission rattle

Hi

My '99 t2k has had a slight rattle for the last couple of months which I can only reproduce by light acceleration from 3500 to 4000rpm (seems less in 4th and 5th gears, but obviously more wind noise) and seemed slightly worse tonight. Doesn't make much difference hot or cold engine. The rattle isn't particularly loud, but is definitely there and quite reproducible - and starting to concern me a touch. It isn't noticeable with heavy acceleration (although more exhaust noise which may drown it out) and the noise is greatly reduced with keeping speed steady.

No bad noises with with car stood still, bonnet open and engine revved.

I really don't know if it is engine, transmission or something as daft as some rattling heat shield.

Any thoughts where to start looking?

Cheers!
