Sport-Turbo Engine Swap
Hey all, im new to the forums looking for some advise..
I bought a pretty run down W reg 2.0 sport scoob a while back and im slowly getting it in shape but i want to swap out the standard engine for the wrx/sti turbo version for the same model, i've found a few engines was just wondering if you had any advise or know of any reason this wouldnt work? Also is there anything else i'd need to change? I've only got drums on the rears so figured they'd need changing? Cheers.

It wont work, its cheaper to buy the turbo because everything is different, a sport isnt up to the job mechanically, it may look the same shape but thats it.

Hi, I'm bringing that up because I have got a bad feeling about my trusty SOHC sport engine... It taps a bit but sometimes it taps much more and then less again, i have got check engine coming on occasionally the list is endless... Well it drives allright, no problems at all, but it all made me think what's next.
The shell is completely rust free and I did quite a lot of work to the car... I was thinking about getting the engine rebuilt but I would have to use scrappy parts which might not be exactly the best idea...
So then swapping came to mind and as far as I'm aware there's no point in putting Turbo engine in because I would have to change whole drivetrain, crossmember, loom and change plugs on door and steering wheel loom etc... so it all works nice and dandy... But what about other N/A engine?
what about 2.5L ? What car is it off? Does it fit straight in? I know that there are necessary upgrades like brakes but besides that and insurance... Does it fit straight in?
I have got P reg pre-facelift sport saloon....

your sohc heads will bolt up to a 2.5 shortblock and the blocks are all identical so who would know. Fitting the turbo lump in ur car is not as hard as some people make out. As for gearbox all 5speeds are chocolate. Dont know about clutch. The hardest part is the wiring but if u had a donor car (which i have) to swap everything straight ova then ur laughing. Ive got lots of donor parts if ur interested

cheaper and easier than what your looking to do,
http://www.rs25.com/forums/f14/t9708...-system-s.html
still, personally id sell the sport, add that to the money your going to waste trying to convert it and buy a turbo model, impreza prices have dropped

Might do, but I was hoping to build it so it will last me next 2-3 years without a problem and I won't moan too much looking at it out of the window, so it gives me time to save for a newage WRX or classic STi... my budget isn't all that good and it won't get better as I plan to go freelance soon...
So yea I'm not craving for that much more power, but I might have to look into engine rebuild so why not tinker a bit with it by the way... it won't inflate the costs much I think... as long as it works with no problems...
edit:
How is $5000 DIY supercharger kit cheaper and better than 2.5L N/A swap?

I have got 4 pots fitted already mate... So I don't have to change loom or ecu? You can basically unbolt my EJ20 n/a off my gearbox and engine mounts and drop a EJ25 n/a in and it all bolts up and plugs in and works?
