When will the repair bills stop!!!
I’m at the point of wanting to get rid of my Scooby and buying a swb Diesel 4x4 since only had it a year and it’s broken down 4 times already and the maintained work it’s had to have so far:
New Windscreen
Bodywork repair
New Radiator
New exhaust
Gearbox work due to 5th gear pop out
Immobiliser problem. (Basically all electrics cut out at 80mh on the motorway)
New MAF sensor.
120K service & Cam belt
Then the things I’ve done to it to make it better:
Performance Pads & discs
HEL Braded Brake Hoses
Pipercross Panel Air filter
Prodrive Bilstein Suspension
Yet today just got it back from MOT expecting YET another big bill and it passed with flying colours and no advisories so I’m in a quandary do I sell it while the goings good or keep it since I have replaced or fixed all the normal classic faults?
Is there anything else the Classic suffers from that I should also be aware of?

I'm thinking perhaps i've been spoilt in the past since my 1988 MR2 was always reliable with very few faults but then i suppose a Turbo car runs harder than a 1.6 N/A.
Must admit after having the the MAF and airfilter change it seems to run better?

Out of that list its only really the gearbox and immoboliser problem that were impreza specific problems really. The rest is just general maintenance that could happen on any car you buy.
I would keep it for another year and see how you like it, now youve done them bits it should be fine for awhile now.
On another note i used to have a 1992 MR2 2.0 gt, and it was possibly the most unreliable car ever! Every week something went wrong! Hated it and then sold it on due to the never ending problems.

I had a Mk 2 MR2 and it was nothing but trouble. My mildly tuned WRX is now on 185,000 miles (1995) and has really looked after me. Yes, the motor is more stressed so maintenance is more critical, but I'll happily live with that...

I felt the same as you about 3 years ago. I sold it and was happy as larry to see the back of it! Mind you though about 5 mins later i wanted another one and have kept the next one i bought and have never been happier with a car. I think people in general see impreza as cheap fast cars from £1500 to £3000 but then they realise it can cost that again within 12 months of owning one. Just stick with it mate because you have almost rebuilt it lol

The reason for disliking the car is any problems i had with the 1988 Mk1 MR2 where spread over the 8 years i owned it but with the scooby all the problem have been in 8 months one after the other so it's getting a bit expensive. I'll hang on to it for a bit longer in that case.

Just a pity they dont do a haynes manual for the car to give me more confidence doing the work on it myself.

As I said on Facebook Ian, you've worked your way through the list in the time you've had her. To get rid now (in my humble opinion) would be a waste and you'd be passing on your hard work for someone else to enjoy while you 'possibly' buy another car with unseen problems/lack of maintenance.
My classic hit 165k a week or so ago and is stupidly reliable, yes we had to replace leaky crankshaft seals and the exhaust but other than that I reckon it's been fairly well looked after (previous owner was a charity organization).
I'd keep her for a bit and see how it goes (or I'll swap ya )
