Default 1996 wrx uk model.

Hi everyone new on site just thought I'd check in. Recently bought a 96 wrx saloon, and I must say I'm well happy. I'm told standard is 210 bhp but this don't pull like a 210 bhp car. Looking to get a few mods done over the coming year, so question is what are the best options. Don't want to break power records or break the bank, there is a recession on and the wife keeps a keen eye on my eBay account thoughts and ideas welcome thanks.

1996 wrx uk model.

Something above doesn't make sense.

Not sure how many cars came to the UK in 1996, but NONE of them imported officially were WRX's.

We got the UK car, no WRX, no STi, no goodies, no toys, lower power, etc etc, but paid £7000 more than the Japs.....

Which is one of the reaons the Impreza is dead in the Uk now

How many miles has it done? Any mods?

You need to think carefully before modding:
Can you get and pay for, insurance at the higher premiums that will be charged when you declare the mods? You WERE going to declare, weren't you?

If the engine has done over 80,000 miles, how will it stand the huge stresses put on it by any mods?
What of the gearbox and clutch?
Will you be able to get it through the new, stiffer MoT with any mods?

If you are OK with all the above:
Better exhaust with decat, remap, decent panel filter, three port boost solenoid etc will take you to about 280hp. You MAY need an aftermarket ecu for a remap.

But before that it would be a VERY good idea to look at better, or larger, or both, brakes, and maybe some mods to a tired suspension system.
Brakes: www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk
Or ask Alyn at AS Performance.

Avoid: induction kits, VTA dumpvalves, as possible engine damagers.

As a rule of thumb, 300 bhp is a LOT of fun in a classic
