Default Late classic temperature questions

Hi,

New to the forum and new to owning a scooby.

what is the normal coolant temperature meant to read on the dash?
Mine has never overheated but sometimes goes up to what i would assume normal (under half way, maybe a third)

then sometimes goes down whist driving normal off boost to just above the C.

i do know it has had a new radiator and thermostat not long ago.

any advice would be great help

HI,
i would suggest its unusual to go down while driving once its up to normal temp

,in fact my uk 2000 never moves from just below centre despite accurate ecu data saying the temps changing all the time.

i,ve recently bought a defi water temp gauge as its not accurate enough for my liking.

i don,t suppose you have an alloy rad fitted or perhaps a cool spec thermostat?

Either the sender is on it's way out, you have a wire loose, or the wiring is shorting to earth.

Mine does it too, but since I have a Defi water temperature gauge fitted, I keep MEANING to fix it and forgetting

Hi, i do recall my mate who i got it off saying something about the thermostat so it may be a cool spec one.

i would have to ask him.

mine is a uk 2000 and does go up to below centre when driving on boost or idle in traffic, its when off boost or motorway it like to cool itself down.

if it is a cool spec thermo will it cause any damage?

Its unlikely to cause damage as such as longs as its not running cold effectively and thus the ecu will be adding fuel to compensate thinking the engines still cold .
It may be that a lower spec thermostat is fitted ? perhaps only 4 celsuis less than standard one, does the cooling fans go on and off whilst sat in traffic idling?(eventually )

Right, had my mate temporary insure the scooby as im awaiting for my renewal.
Got it running up to temperature pottering around off boost, temp gauge goes up to top of C then in traffic it goes up, if driving say steady 50 it will drop to about mid C.

After a good run i let it idle, temp goes up to normal and fans kick in as normal(eventually after probably annoying the street)

I can only assume on what i read last night its a thermostat issue.
