Which gear for dyno run
After seeing various posts about dyno power runs there seems to be differing gear choices for the runs
On a 5 speed which gear is preferable and why
Most seem done in 3rd but some are 4th
What power /torque difference would be registered using 4th or 3rd

3rd IIRC on a 5 speed, 4th on a 6 speed.
Mine, 5 speed box, will do over a ton in 4th.
It's to keep the wheel speed down, I believe mate. You're opening another can of worms though.

i thought the gear was chosen as close as possible to 1:1 ???
different gear seemed to affect torque, but not power much ,http://www.iwsti.com/forums/power-br...-339-ftlb.html

A few say 4th gives a more accurate reading due to the longer pull
I've no idea at all
If any mappers / operators could throw some light on the for and against ?

You'll not get them all to agree, lol.
Dyno Dynamics say you should use the gear that achieves full power between 60-100mph. If the speed is higher than that, it can skew the figures to the high side and you should use a lower gear.
A Newage WRX should be ran in 3rd on a DD dyno and an Sti in 4th.

Hi Tony
Usually 4th gear on 6 speed and 3rd gear on 5speed,but I would ask Charlie@SRR(he is usually on 22b forum) for sure
But this can help

Have you tried using the virtual dyno software yet Toneh? it gives you the choice of translating your pull log in 3rd or 4th gear (obviously results will be wildly off if you do the pull in 3rd and tell V.Dyno it was 4th).
Was out the other night and it was telling me I was putting out 310bhp and 326lb/f though I think my bottom end is starting to show signs of weaknesses (I bought the car with no service history so was kinda expecting it sooner or later so 3 years down the road isnt too bad).

I've read it can be quite accurate
Im getting mine on dyno probably this once , only because every man and his dog keeps asking what power is it , I don't think I'm gonna become a dyno junkie
