Default Best location for oil pressure gauge sender?

Hi everyone,
I'm just fitting some gauges in my classic & was wondering where people fit the sensor for an oil pressure gauge?
I suppose most people use the adaptor plate thing that sits between oil filter & block but I've had those before & they never seemed ideal.
On my old S13 (I think!) I fitted the sensor directly into the block where there was a blanking plate & I'm sure I've seen something for sale somewhere that does a similar thing for the impreza? Seem to recall it being an adaptor to allow the fitment of a sensor to the block by cylinder 3.
Was just curious what you guys use? If you all use the oil filter ones with good results (no leaks & decent fitment) then maybe the one I had was just poorly made.
Cheers everyone,
James

For oil pressure I would recommend under the alternator. It is where the car has it's standard oil pressure sensor.

yep your right there is an adapter which goes into the bung above cylinder 3. this is considered the best place as cylinder 3 gets the hottest so gives a better reading. only problem is you have to take off the intercooler to get to it. some people use the bung on the front cylinder which is underneath the alternator but again you need to take of the a/c belt and rotate the alternator out the way i think. lesser of 2 evils really lol, if you have both oil temp and pressure gauges you can get the twin adaptor type connector which does both.

As above put pressure sensor where original lives and put temp gauge sensor where the bung is above cylinder 3.

That's for oil Temp. The oil pressure is as ScoobyDoo69 said and is much easier to fit.

This is the guide I used and is recommended by loads of people on here.

Unfortunately you are getting wrong info, above.

You would have been FAR better doing a search on here rather than asking a question that has been asked hundreds of times.

Anyway, to set you right:

The oil PRESSURE sender should be located at the same point that the stock oil pressure switch is, ie: just under the alternator. Depending on the size of your new sender, and whether or not you want to keep the OE oil pressure SWITCH, you might need and extension which screws into that point and allows you to fit a large sender AND the o/p switch. My o/p switch is on my garage shelf, LOL.

Meanwhile, the tappings over No3 cylinder, which, as yabadoo says, runs hottest, are for oil TEMPERATURE sender. it's not a good place for oil pressure.

If you want an o/t sender in there you need an adaptor there too.

Adaptors can be had singly, or in pairs off ebay for about £25: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IMPREZA-WR...item1c2e427cc6

Well mine is running a front mount so intercooler won't be in the way, but if the other option is better ill remove the alternator to get it, that's not a problem
So the bung by cylinder 3 is considered best? Where do you get that adaptor? Any idea? Can't remember where I saw it!
Cheers,
James

Ok, didn't see the above posts as they just appeared when I was writing mine. I'll go for the existing oil pressure switch location.
Thanks everyone.

LOL, Yes, but in between me typing it and actually posting it, my eldest asked for help with an engineering question on shear.
So I posted and two more had appeared before me. Sorry

James, you have it right now, the one I posted shows how to have a gauge and a switch for the warning light.

But strictly speaking, the warning light is best known as an "engine fcuked light", and done away with.

Apologies m8 I jumped in thinking it was oil temp as that's what I'm about to fit. As said by everyone else the pressure sensor is at alternator. The temp sensor is reportedly better above cylinder 3.

my oil temp and oil pressure are in the sandwich plate adapter where my oil filter sits but the oil filter is relocated to behind the drivers headlight, i get accurate temp and pressure with it there so it doesnt always have to be in the block for pressure etc

I notice these come in 300mm, 500mm & 1000mm lengths. Is the 300mm plenty on a newage 2.0 engine bay?
