ok my car is up for sale and i have a buyer coming to collect however after some retarded tyre kickers yesterday when i went to start her just now it just sounds like something is spinning????? the car wont turn over....

they were messing around with the gears bringing to bite etc wjilst runnging and stalled it. i thought it might be starter motor yet have just had suggested it could be something with the flywheel????? any one got any ideas suggestions or incredibly fast solutions!!!!!! IM DESPERATE

Sounds like the bendix in the starter motor has failed, quickest option is to try another starter motor, although it doesn't sound like you have time for that.
If it's a grating sound, it could be the ring gear on the flywheel, i presume that is what someone has suggested to you, but that's not very common on Impreza's.
A quick test to rule out the ring gear is to move the ring gear onto a different section as it only wears out on one point where the starter engages with it. If you put the car in 4th gear and push it forward a foot or so (will be quite hard to push) then try it on the key again (make sure you put it back in neutral first) It will prove the ring gear theory.
