15W 50 Mobil 1 Motrosport Oil Okay?
Hey folks,
My wagon 2000 uk turbo 1998 S plate, with 139k on the clock is due an oil change.. I can get my hands on multiple quantities of the Mobil 1 Motorsport 15w 50 oil, and wondered what your thoughts are?
Any idea what grade i should go for? Or will this be okay?
The car has an uprated turbo, exhaust, 550 injectors and FMIC..
Any help greatly appreciated..
Cheers

I've been using 15W50 Mobil 1 Motrosport in my MY99 uk2000 since 2001 and have no complaints at all
Have around 60ltrs left in stock now that was produced around 2006.
I will keep using it till it's gone

Any 15W engine oil will have very little initial cold start protection at this time of year and put unnecessary strain on your battery and starter motor at it tries to turn the engine through something resembling treacle.
Better suited to hotter climates!

Oil is meant to get dirty, thats how it works, by taking contaminates out of the engine (carbon in this case), but its the wrong time of year to run a 15 cold weight oil, you need a 10 or a 5 really.

I wouldn't put 15w/50 in my lawn mower. It's designed for low tech classic/vintage engines to fill up the void between piston rings and the bore!

5w/30 is the manufacturers recommendation for a standard WRX, for instance.

What's the answer? Change to oil to something suitable for your track days and then back again for road use? There isn't a product that is fully suitable to do both.
You could buy a 0w/50, 10w/60, but the higher end of the viscosity range wouldn't offer the best protection when pottering about in the cold and snow!
