Default Power (engine or trans)

Hey everyone. Just looking for some advice. I currently drive a 2003 Wrx running around 280ish hp and looking to upgrade to around 350hp sometime around next year.. My car has been well maintained and I very rarely floor it but when I do I would like it abit more of a kick as it no longer feels fast (silly I know but hey). My main concern anyways is what is more likely to give way first if i am unlucky enough that something goes pop or what ever. I can't afford to uprate both trans and engine at same time whilst upgrading power.. I will be putting money aside straight away to uprate the other anyhow anyways. Just looking for a little advice.

Many thanks in advance

imo mate it all depends on how lucky you are and how well treated the engine and gearbox is ( i.e services and launch starts). I know someone who had a 400bhp wrx with standard internals and gearbox which he had for two years with no problems, but on the other hand your engine or gearbox may give way at 280bhp. If i was you i would go for around 330 bhp which imo is about the limit i would go to in a wrx.

hope this helps

sam

Alright cheers mate. Cars got full service history up to date and not that that means it will survive from what ive been reading on most posts just wandering out of the 2 should be first priority? 330hp should be enough for a while also to put a smile back on my face (fingers crossed) lol

Slight change of subject also.. say if one was to uprate the internals of the engine what I be looking to upgrade? (keeping it 2.0ltr but forged to hold a nice amount of power)

Got so many things on my car list ATM its hard to decide where to go or where to start with it all haha Have been debating power or looks for a while i as love the look of the s11 wrc cars but that's another topic for another day lol

2.1 if pulling the engine apart, IMO. Cost won't be that much different to a forged 2.0, just adding a crank to it.

What's difference between cost mate for a 2002 sti 6 speed (roughly 1400 if I'm correct??) and an engine rebuild? Can't seem to get a good guesstimate price for a rebuild seeing a I don't know what's needed internally to rack up a rough priceing.

Rebuild is more expensive, it depends on how far you want to go.

Some people may well just go for a set of drop in forged pistons, then it's pretty much a set of head gaskets and some seals on top. No need to split the block for drop in's.

Doing it properly, you'll want rods, bearings, pistons, head bolts etc etc. It all adds up.

Do it right first time though. If you're engine is healthy presently, then sort the box etc then rebuild.
