Default Fault Code P0410 Secondary Air Injection System

Lads have a lightly modded 2.5ltr STI 2006. Remapped with TSL exhaust and sports cat. Just had the car back from head gasket, crank and bearings job and now showing a P0410 fault. Done some checking on the forums and apparently the pump can be ripped out as not really necessary. Is this true? and anyone out there that can do it for me? Also is there a simple way of checking the pump propertly before taking any drastic action? Want to avoid taking it to Subaru as likely they will reccomend new pump/pumps which I have been told are expensive. Cheers

if you mean the secondary air pump and valves, then there are blanks you can fit which cover the hole in the exhaust side into which the air pump, pumps air into..

but you will need to get the CEL obsoleted by someone able to edit your ECU.. I mean, make the car think it doesnt need a pump and valves.
Should you remove the pumps and valves without getting the ECU 'fixed' once you remove the pumps and valves you will get an errors again.

I had this on my 06 Forester X.. bloody expensive, I think the car was just pissed off at me, as I had placed an advert to sell it 3 days earlier stating how reliable it was, no faults at all in 60 months and 120k Kms. untill this!

Nice one guys thanks for the response. Would the car fail an MOT after removing the pump? at present the car scrapes through an emissiones test with the sports cat.

the air pump is used in the startup cycle, untill warmish...
so for MOT should be no change to previous.

these pumps were all for EURO3 I think, untill EURO peeps said that making the emmisions lower in the warmup cycle by pumping fresh air into the exhaust is not in the spirit of the game

Thanks to all who have responded. Have it all sorted now it seems. Basically found a hose which goes into the intercooler left unconnected after I had the major work done. Happy it was a simple fix!

Hi I just wanted to let people know that for an STI with a P0410 fault there is a solution which requires no ecu tuning, and is relatively easy to do compared with other solutions.
I'm not sure if i'm allowed to post links directly, so do a google search on planet vulcan labs X-form P0410 subaru sti.

That seems a bit more of a faff than getting a mapper to turn it off. If the valves are open, in both cases the system needs blanking, so you may as well remove everything.
It's interesting, but pre production, and no prices, so hard to judge. UK import costs will probably kill it here. Would it even work on UK cars?
Normal practice with most Subaru specialists , when stuck closed, if you can't remove and blank yourself , is to map it out, and remove at a later date at the same time as a clutch change or engine out, as it's a labour intensive *******. If that is impractical, it has potential.
