guage fitting advice
Alright guys i recieved some guages today oil press oil temp and boost now before i attempt fitting it im just after a bit of advice firstly
the oil pressure adaptor how does the original one attatch to it do i need to cut the wires and wire them to it or do i need anythin else?
secondly the boost sensor there are 3 wires coming out of it what do i connect these to as the diagram i have is a bit vague and doesnt show the boost connector ive attatched some pics to make it more clear of what i have recieved any help would be great i dont wanna get halfway through fitment then come across a problem

oil pressure

oil temperature

boost

the guide i have lol

oil pressure is under the alternator, not sure you will fit that sender in there it looks pretty big.
oil temperature there is a blanking plug on cylinder 3 underneath intercooler (usually a pain to remove).
boost pressure can be t off the dumpvalve vacuum pipe.

Hello.
Look at the interior section - I just installed my gauges and there are some pics.
I am at work now, so I cannot see your pictures.
I can talk you through it if you want. PM me your number and I will call you.

In addition to what you have, you will need the following: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OIL-PRESS-...item20c4985df1
Available elsewhere, but that link was easy to find.
The long flexi pipe enables you to fit that humungous o/p sender away from the alternator, and also still keep your o/p switch.
The other fitting is a reducer for the tappings on top of cylinder 3, it screws in, and your sender screws into it.
Depending on your car, there may be an unused nipple for a boost gauge on top of your manifold, otherwise, use the T-piece as specified above.
A search will turn up no end of advice.

cheers guys ye i spoke top the lads at scooby spares and they explained to me that i have to purchase the oil press and oil temp adaptor kit which i have now ordered in the mean time ive just finished wiring in the gauges and plumbed in the boost guage im happy with them only thing that is a bit worrying is the oil pressure guages is a off colour compared to the other 2 and on the start up sequence it doesnt return to normal like the rest here is a pic i took the ignition is on but the car isnt started is there anythin that i could of done to cause this all ive done is wire in the ground the light switch and acc which i have done with the others and they seem to be illuminating ok etc

Ye been out used the car etc to make sure the boost was working fine etc and the oil pressure guage is still stuck in that position it goes off when I turn the ignition off but soon as I turn the ignition on the needle goes back to that position

deffo not wiring error as i swapped the wiring around with the oil temp and oil press and the problem is still there i have spoke to andy at scooby spares he assures me once i plumb the oil pressure gauge in it should work fine if it doesnt he will glady send me out another gauge so until my oil press adaptor kit comes there is really nothing i can do
Well it's started flickering now aswell and its a off white compared to the other 2 so I'm having it changed can't thank Andy enough from scoobyspares he has been great throughout all this plus giving me fitting advice over the phone so new one will be in the post to me soon hopefully then should all be sweet then drilled the pod today and fitted the alarm led so hopefully by next weekend it should all be fitted fingers crossed lol

I had similar issues with some "Swoosh" gauges from Revolution, ie flickering etc. Actually thinking back, the oil pressure gauge never actually worked properly.
Binned them and fitted some Stack gauges and haven't had any issues with them.

There is nothing wrong with the oil pressure gauge. If it is not connected to the sender, it will automatically go to maximum. It works off a variable resistor.
With regards to your flickering, you should use a 'reliable' constant 12v source (preferably with a relay). Also, use a common earth for the gauges AND the sensors. That way there is no potential difference and you will have more accuracy.
Hope this helps.

cheers for the info jase well i sent the gauge back as i wasnt happy that it was a different shade of white to the other 2
recieved my oil pressure and oil temp adaptor kit today

gonna attempt fitting the oil temp sensor question i have is..
out of the back of the guages there are 4 wires: earth/acc/lights and the last wire goes to the sender do i need to earth the sender down aswell or will it earth itself off the block ??

I would use PTFE tape dude. I didn't the first time and had a leak. Do it right the first time.
Also, with regards to earth, use a common earth for both sensors and also ALL the gauges. ie pick an earthing point where you join earths for oil temp and pressure. Then run this wire along with both signal wires into the cabin and use the same earth for the gauges inside.
For the ignition, I got the feed from the ignition switch. Use a multimeter to find a point that is live when the key is turned, and also while cranking. You might need a relay so while you are at it run a positive wire fused before the bulkhead so that you can easily fit a relay if needed. If not, you have a spare wire for something else later in life.
Hope this helps,
J

well that was fiddly just got the oil temp sensor plumbed in i used ptfe tape to be safe no leaks yet however i earthed down the sensor aswell which caused the guage to go to the max so i disconnected the earth from the sensor and it seems to be operaing fine now just got the oil pressure sensor to do now once i get my new one in the post one thing i have noticed is the oil temp gauge seems to move up when i turn my lights on or operate the windows is this due to a bad earth ? i have earthed all 3 guages off the clock grnd wire shold i run a earth from the battery to the guages ??

Hey mate. Sorry for delay -
Right, your temp sensor should have 2 leads - the signal and earth. If you earth the body of the sensor, it will read 'max' as it works off a variable resistor.
See my earthing point (I know it looks dirty - will be remedied in the good weather)

This is the same earth point for the sensors AND the gauges. I did not use the earth from inside the car. This means there is no risk of potential difference, and if there was a fault, I only have one place to look.

You can see the thick black wire going into the bulkhead through the grommet. That is the earth going INTO the cabin for the gauges. I need a bigger conduit for the last few inches as it's a little bulky.

As you can see, the aftermarket oil pressure sensor has PTFE tape. The OEM sensor at the end does NOT need PTFE tape. It is earthed through the hose.

This is the wires coming INTO the cabin - black for earth, white yellow and green for water, oil pressure and oil temp.
The red and blue are for live and ignition.

As you can see I have a 5amp fuse for the live.

soldered to the ignition barrel at a contact which is live when the while cranking and when the engine is running.
Hope this helps.
