Default Thanks to Racedynamix + Sub-Bus

Just wanted to say a big thanks to Duncan + Tim. My wrx hit 342/407 today at RCM. Really chuffed with the result. Mods were sti tmic, vf43, walbro, decat, cosworth panel filter. Run on Tesco 99

Yes it a 2007 Hawkeye. It hit 354 bhp and well over 410 but mapped down to save my clutch and gearbox.

Sorry about the the pic!

The car feels insane now. Duncan works wonders!

Awesome
I would be interested in what you mapped down to in the end to preserve your gearbox.
I have a 2006 hawkeye with catback, backbox, panel filter, STI top mount doing 272bhp and 350lb. Thinking about the VF34 too...does it spool quicker?

It did make 354/ around 420 but i dont have a printout for that. Didnt see the point as it was mapped down because i was panicking about the clutch etc. Still it wont last forever as it is atm. Just going to be careful and not constantly launch it!

Id definitely go full decat and just swap at mot time. Running a scorpion decat cat pipe and afterburner downpipe. The vf34 is from the sti type ra i think? Pretty old now and will be hard to find a decent one. id stick with the vf43 or vf48. A little laggy but when it kicks in the car turns into a psychopath! Lol.

Dont worry Duncan is the Merlin of the subaru world. Good luck

Cheers for that.
I definitely want the vf34...I'll be buying a new one just for piece of mind. I'm not the kind of person who would launch a car...I don't even tend to rag it in first gear. I just want the pull of a high torque motor.
How careful do you have to treat yours with all that torque?

Andy - I havent seen a hawk wrx box go apart from one where the owner launched it from every set of lights for about a year lol. The clutch is generally the first thing to go but if torque can be fed in smoothly it should survive just fine. Done lots of these to this sort of torque level with no issues over the years.

As a side note, the dyno at RCM does seem to show a high torque figure compared to other centres (peak power shows fine) but that is a can of worms to say the least lol.

Richard - glad you are enjoying it

it's like another car ! so much fun now thanks dude - remember to send me that info via Facebook as well.

i think i may soften the suspension actually come to think of it, it is a bit painful when going long distance. gonna put the front on 20 and the rears on 23 and see how that goes

currently looking at vf35 turbos, 550cc injectors and 3 port solenoids now :| DAMN YOU !

That's great Dunc. You did my hawk to 350lb in April. Funds allowing I'll be back to you with a fuel pump, sti tmic and vf34 for a tweak.
Another question...can the car be mapped for low end power, rather than high end or is it a case of map it and see what you can get?
Cheers,
Andy

low end is more a case of turbo choice. If you are wanting low end power then stick to the td04, nothing will spool up better than that tbh.

Are there decat pipes which can slot a cat in at MOT time? The reason I ask is that I don't have easy access to a mechanic to be changing the pipes every year.
I'm thinking that perhaps a decat, headers etc is the way to go to aid spool up...rather than sticking a bigger turbo on it?

You could go for a sports cat downpipe and decat cat pipe. Would still pass Mot as long as its warmed up before the test. Or go full decat. The decat cat pipe would be the easier to swap over.

If you want to achieve 300bhp plus, you would need a bigger turbo. However full decat will aid in spool up.

From what I have seen of the 5 speed Hawkeye box it has far greater structural strength than the TY754 which was already an improvement over the TY752. The only person I know that wrecked one was a bit of a Rock Ape from the North East so I guess Duncan may be thinking of the same guy
I am interested to hear other people's experience with this 5 speed box.
