tapping noise driving me mad

tapping noise driving me mad
I have flushed my engine oil twice to give the engine a good clean out, plus put some oil additive in which is surposed to quiten noisey tappets, put mobil 10-40 semi in on oil change. The noise is still there, its like a tapping blowing exhaust sound, and gets louder with the more throttle you use.
Its coming from the drivers side around the rad filler cap, tried to pin point it with a screwdriver with no joy, could it be the injecters.
I have tried injecter cleaner with no joy, changed the plugs but its still there, the car runs fine does not smoke or use oil. Can the injectors on subarus be very loud, mine is a uk spec 1999 impreza standard apart from exhaust and dump valve.
My injecters have a yellow top, if its them how do you quiten them, it does sound like loud tappets but the noise seems to be higher up. Help ITS DRIVING ME MAD

Have you checked the boost solenoid? That's on the top of the drivers side suspension and can make a noise like a tapping. Mine does it and I hate it although since its been mapped again its a bit better.

Took it to scooby clinic today , nice place nice friendly people. They had 4 people looking at it at one point ,they checked the leads and plugs but said the rocker cover needs to come off to look further.
They think the valve clearance might of been done wrongly or it might of thrown a shim, they can not say till rocker cover is off. My timming belt needs doing and they charge £237 all in to do that, and if i have it done while this is done should only cost another £120 depending what they find.
Well need to save now , go on hols in 8 weeks, so come at a bad time. I will keep folk posted when i have it done.
