I'm hoping that some of you guys would be kind enough to educate me on the above

I currently own a V3 Type R and looking to upgrade the rear brakes.

I'm told that the V3 is a bit of an odd one as it only has single pot calipers whereas the V4/5/6 all came with 2 pots

I've already bought newage WRX 2 pots for it, apparently if I had the backing plates off a V4/5/6 or a 2001-2005 STI they would fit. Backing plates seem to be like rocking horse poo

So what diff do I have on my car ? The same as a V4/5/6 and early newage STI ?

Could I just buy 2001-2005 STI hubs and fit them to my type R ? with the WRX calipers fitting on there ?

Will Subaru sell me backing plates ?

Or is there an easier way for me to do this ?

I'm doing exactly the same to my V3 STI RA.

I tried to buy just the backing plates and ended up buying some complete hubs from a V5 Type R. I'm going to put new bearings in and give them a refurb before changing it all over.

Do you know if the early newage STI hubs would do the job ?

Seen a pair for £100 so might just need to bite the bullet

 

I'm not 100% sure but I think you may get suspension mounting problems with those.

Ian @ Godspeed may be able to offer some advice, might be worth a try.

 

Here is a decent writeup - I needed to do the same to fit newage 2-pot brakes to the rear of my turbo wagon.
