Default Inlet manifold re spray

Gonna be re spraying the manifold soon and wondered dose it need to be primed 1st ?
Going to be using VHT red crinkle and I'm sure when I read the back of the container last time it said it didn't need to be primed first.

Can any1 confirm what the case is ?

Me personally I would give it a bloody good rub down with sand paper, give it a couple coats or primer, then the finishing coat.

Did they not change the formula of the VHT stuff and it ended up an more orangy colour than red?

I used the black on mine, no primer just a good rub down of the original paint, I have one small peel under the header tank where hot coolant escaped as I hadn't put the lid on properly!
