Ideally you would want something like a 6 speed or a ppg box to be certain if wont break but if budget is a issue then a TY754VBAAA gearbox from a sti5/6 or P1

The sti 5/6/P1 box will fit straight in, however I did run an sti 3 box at 389bhp for a while only changed as I broke 5th gear. Which was an easy fix but got the P1 box at a good price.

I have a ty754v6aaa (I think lol) out of a blobeye wrx in my uk 99 with the diff and driveshafts all together was £450 off a member on here and they are apparently good for around the 400bhp and similar torque but I have no proof of this just what I've read and been told hope this helps

Exedy.

Mine has over 400 ft lbs, (it's TORQUE that breaks the transmission, not power), and I have a 6-speed in it.

are you able to straight swap the newage sti 6 speed straight into the 1999 uk classic then? or would i need to buy drive shafts prop and rear dif? also whats the score with the R160 3.54 rear difs do they go with the older sti's and the r180 is from v5/6 are they any good or is it worth just going for the newage set up?

You need to change everything when upgrading to 6 speed(box, dif, shafts, cradle, starter motor, linkage, flywheel and clutch can stay the same if you use 5speed starter motor).

Whole packages can be bought from 1,5k to 2,5k,depends on the year
