Default Maf disconnected but drives fine - help!

I bought my 2002 wrx a few weeks ago and have just discovered today that the maf sensor has been disconnected at the plug, car seems to drive well to me, can't reach the previous at the moment to find out why, tried connecting it but will only rev up to 2500, disconnected again and revs freely, I've driven 1000 miles in it and it goes well, someone told me might be set up to run from a amother sensor, map? Any ideas please

Has the car been modded at all and if so what has been done to it?

If it is a std. car then It sounds like the MAF is fecked, i would not be driving it if that is the case as the fuelling is likely to be out and melted piston(s) on the cards!

Car has a powertek cold air induction, decat straight exhaust and hks dump valve, could it be to do with the induction? Car does drive really well which surely it wouldn't if there was a problem

No check engine light? Seems odd if the MAF is disconnected that there's no CEL.

I think that if the ecu detects a MAF failure it uses default "safe" values for the fuelling and I would have thought it would go in to limp mode (minimal boost).

It is possible it's been remapped using a MAF-less ecutek map or something? Or even have an after-market ECU...but in that case it ought to ignore the MAF sensor connection if you plug it back in. Odd.

Best find out from the person you bought it from exactly what's been done to it

Hi there's a possibility someone has mapped it mafless and your running on map sensor
It's not got to be ecutek or an after market ecu
Get it plugged in and see what it's got in there
Odd how it won't run with afm plugged in , some maf less still utilise it for monitoring iat
