Bottom end has failed
Evening
After only owning my Blobeye STI UK for about 12 weeks the bottom end has let go and started knocking, It was rebuilt at 42k after it melted a piston, Its only on 57k now. It was rebuilt with Uprated oil pump, Wossner pistons, H Beam rods, JDM Crank, 2 Heads etc and i have all paper work etc for the build, It came to a total of just under 6K....
Car had plenty of oil in, even though it does use a little. Always checked and topped up.
My question is what sort of parts am i going to need, Will the crank be dead??
I understand its a hard 1 to answer without stripping it down but i have spoken to the builder and he has said new crank, rods, bearings, and oil pump at least.
Any ideas of prices for this sort of work?
Car is a 2003 STI UK running 360bhp
Cheers

Seems odd to let go after just 15,000 miles. It's important to work out why. I guess it's hard to say whether the previous owner looked after it properly, warming it up before thrashing it and using good quality oil, but you would expect so after spending that much!
Its worth replacing the oil pump as it may have failed, or be full of swarf which can damage the seals. Obviously needs bearings, all new gaskets, may need a rod on the end that's let go, and may need a crank depending on whether it's completely spun a bearing or weather it's just one that's worn out super quick?!
Either way like I said make sure you get to the bottom of why it's failed so quickly.

not a good thing to happen pal to keep the costs down we could supply and fit a 2005 sti engine we have here with 40,000 miles on the clock for £1750 with fresh oil and a set of new ngk7b plugs, for an extra £180 we could change the belt and tensioner
pm me if this is any good pal also we can knock some of for your damaged engine in return
thanks scott@scoobyspares

its possible you might be lucky if you didnt hear any knocking, its possible the screws in the oil pump have come loose - common problem
as you have said take it back to them and see what they can do.

I gotta say subarus are too fragile. 6 grand on a rebuild including the uprated oil pump and it still dies? I'm sad to hear after all that work you still have no guarantee that your safe.

Thats why the reason for the original failure must be found.(if possible)chances are the thing that nuked the first engine also was the cause of the second failure.

I agree but I doubt it's the pump as some are saying because the original rebuild included an uprated pump. Still sad for the owner though. I hope he finds out what caused the failure.
