Default Urgent Help Needed

I have just bought a Subaru Impreza 1999 turbo and it is stalling at idle revs mainly when pulling up at traffic lights or junctions, the rev needle drops to zero and the car stalls. Could someone please tell me what is it likely to be

Also I would like to buy a code reader which one is suitable for this car as I am getting mixed messages about which one will work with my car

I have used on my golf a memoscan reader but unsure which one works with the impreza

And your car has diagnostics built in, do a search on here how to read the blink codes

Cheers for the replies I have looked how to do the blink codes but am having a blonde moment (being a girly) could someone please tell me exactly where the connectors are and how to do it or a link to pictures

My mate had this problem on his Subaru,like it says above check the Maf, What you could possibly do is disconnect it and see if the car runs any better, the engine light will be on though,If it is that try cleaning it or just buying a new one, Cant really remember how to do the blink codes but its 2 connectors under the steering column that you just simply plug together and when you put on ignition count the number of blinks and see what they stand for, I hope that helps abit

P.s not 100% sure but I think it was a green and black connector what you should be looking for...

try all intercooler and turbo hoses first, make sure there are no splits and everything is sound there before forking out on anything

Thanks for replied I just did the test and it came back as 22 which is the knock sensor I believe does this sound correct and would it cause the problems that I am having
