I've just bought a bugeye with a 2.1 "enginetuner" engine and an sc36. The sc36 is a *really* good fit for a daily driver, there is literally no lag with it. It feels like driving a big torquey NA engine. I honestly bought the car to steal the engine for my track car and return the bug to standard (who needs more than a td04 for a daily etc etc...), but it's so good that I'm going to keep it as it is as a daily driver as it is

I'd say that when it comes to turbo choice, it highly depends on what you want from the car, of course. I miss the great *WHACK* in the back I get from the 20g that I have in the other car, but in reality the sc36 is probably as fast or faster up 70+ than the 20g due to the way it delivers the power, but the 20g feels more "ballistic" once it's going.. I suspect the map on the new car is also made to be smooth, where-as the 20g map is "give me as much power as possible at any time"

Having said that, the 20g gets tiring to drive day to day, as it has to be kept on the boil as otherwise the car will not go anywhere fast, so if it's a true daily, then go for the smaller sc36. With the sc36 the car sits quite happily at 16-1700rpm and if I put my foot down the car will start accellerating. With the 20g, there is no chance of doing this. The sc36 car will happily sit in 5th at 40mph, where-as the ohter one will be in 4th *and not happy with it* - it feels like it'd prefer 3rd!!

Here's the sc36 graph on the bug:

and the deltadash for the 20g (on a 2 litre) - red lines:

The above graph was a map on part E85, and it's now been detuned to around 370 on normal v-power, but the power delivery is very similar.

Both cars have headers (RCM + Lateral) and are on 2.5" exhausts with a PPP backbox. The 2.1 has an STI TMIC and the 2.0 a Japspeed FMIC.

If it's on a stock motor, the 36 is a fantastic choice.
Mapped one very recently with subtle mods that made effortless power and had very little loss of response from the TD04 that was removed.

Thanks Guys for your input think ive decided on the sc36 as it seems to tick all the boxes . Low lag, Good power and as its a daily driver it suits my driving style as the turbo fitted at the moment has alot of lag but when on boost pulls hard but you have to hang off 6k rpm all the time which is not me lol , Think i better get saving !!

I'm Running my07 Sti top mount and tray, full decat ,k&n panel filter,3 port solenoid, hawk sti injectors,Ngk 7 plugs and ecutek software . With a sc36 what kind of figure would you like to see after a mapping session ?

Yes, it's honestly so much better than I thought it would be - very, very nice indeed

I've seen a few modified cars now, and they usually feel like they're about to have stuff fall off them, but this one is really well screwed together.

The engine feels like a powerful OEM engine as well, none of the "modified" feel to it.

Gearboxes are another topic, most say 52 type will take about 330 to 350, 54 will take 360, then you have to jump to 6 speeds for >370 up to about 500 or so.

The car Henrik is talking about is my old one (bought 2 days ago). The engine was done nearly 2 years ago and is still running the same 5 speed box quite happily.

Yep, and I can confirm the gearbox still feels fine

Also, my other WRX (2003) has been running a TD05-20g for the last 5 years at various power levels above 350, and the gearbox is still going strong (This includes track days as well as normal a+b road driving (around 24k miles in total)). The only thing I've changed is the clutch to an exedy one and a lightened flywheel.
