Default Ecu

What ecu should I be looking to buy for my 1995 wrx import wagon?
I need one mappable or one already chipped? If done already can I just plug it in? My car is standard at mo other than de cat through and panel filter.
There's so many to choose from on eBay?

Cheers

Mark

Need an ESL daughter board, mappers can fit and map them for you when you go to get it mapped. most will supply as well. I'd recomend getting it from the mapper/tuner so if theres an issue they can deal with it and replace it with a spare.

in short no...z4 ecu is for td05 not the vf turbos.plus if running front mount will need remap otherwise it will go bang rather quickly.
i have 93 wrx running cat back system, walbro and induction with the z4 ecu.

From what I can make out the 3b is from a 94-95 wrx? If this is your car then you should definately get a remap with those mods asap before something breaks it is not setup to handle any of those mods, you could get an esl board fitted to your ecu and mapped which is probably your cheapest option other than a 2nd hand apexi or simtek but usually when factoring in for mapping cost can work out more expensive than when bought new so watch out for that, Some chips are ok but are generic rather than tailored to suit your car and mods, no 2 engines are exactly the same so a proper remap will always be better imho

As the new Simtek is out then there are deals to be had on 2nd hand ones at the moment. As you have quite a few bolt on's then a chip will not be an option. ESL board, fitted with the map , about 550 quid.

Thanks for all the info, marcevs72 what power does that give you?
Thing is I have at the moment fitted a cat back exhaust to a standard wrx wagon 95, I have a panel filter on order and looking and ready to buy down pipe decat, if I'm right in thinking should I then be buying the walbro fuel pump and an ecu? But is there an ecu that I can plug straight on from a standard wrx that is mappable or do I have to buy a certain one?

Thanks

You can fit the pump and panel filter before the ecu ,but i don't think you should fit the decat without re mapping .As im sure you would cause it to overboost , and did you know it won't pass a mot with the decat fella

there arent any re-mappable ecu's for the early cars like ours.im saving for simtek and a front mount for mine.i am running 275 bhp at the mo but thats about max for the standard injectors.the fuel pump is more of a safety thing as original pump is rather old and for how much they cost adds a bit of piece of mind about failing pump running car lean.

Yes i know about the mot, 11 months test so will worry about that later,
Unless like you say bulldag you think cat back which is on and panel filter
To fit at weekend then fuel pump when ordered but leave it at that till i get
Ecu and fit the downpipe at same time??

Thank you

None of the standard 4 plug 92-96 impreza ECUs are mappable as they come from the manufacturer. But *all* of them can be made mappable by installing small daughterboard into the ECU.

That's what tidgy, wildpikey and ukpaisley were referring to when talking about the ESL board.

As said above , you can not map your std ecu,I have worked on 5 x 95/96 wagons in the last 2 yrs including one I bought last Thursday. Std power is around 220 bhp. If you change the ecu to a z4 and add a td05 you should should see 260+ with mods.
If you can find a 6s ecu iirc off a sti , it will give you 275+ bhp. Your std ecu boost to 0.6/7 bar, Z4 hits 0.8/9 bar, sti ecu 1.0/1.1bar.
Still the safest option is an apexi, simtek,or esl which can be mapped to your car .individually imho.

Really will need correctly mapping, daughter board or replace the ECU completely (Simtek, syvecs etc.)
