Default hi all, noob in need of serious help/advise

right..... to start with hi all, noob from stoke on trent staffordshire, my name is matt and i own a 2000 (X) subaru forester s turbo (EJ205) manual (hope i can be part of your group). previous car was a 400 bhp nissan s14, series 1 escort rs turbo and fiesta rs turbo! sorry to post this here as i caint seen to find a noob/introduction thread lol and didnt want my first post to be a problem hahah

right down to the issues.....

as stated my car is a 2ltr turbo forester 2000 x reg in manual, standard (for now)

the issue im having is a "serious" judder stutter at around 3500 - 4000 RPM and bad idle!

now iv done a boost leak test all seems fine, iv unpluged the air flow sensor wile it was running and the there was a change in running (pluss engine light came on) so caint see an issue with that, iv had a computer run thru the car and not a single fault was found!

i did fit a piper cross air filter once and it stopped the judder but i did get abit of a stutter in low revs and thick black smoke from the exhaust!

i have also put a set of HT lead checkers on and they seem to spark well and fine (engine side, as they would not fit spark plug side as not bloody room lol)

i did fitt a HKS EVC 3 to it so i could read the boost to make shure its not over boosting and it reads around .3 .5 bar as the stutter starts

now im completely new to the subaru engine and dont know were to start, so if some one can help to point me in the right direction!

but i dont really have the funds to just buy all the parts as a trial and error theory,

any help would really be appreciated and i hope to meet some well like minded people like myself

right so theres a start, i will look into a price for that now, if i drive steddy its ok till it reaches 3-4 RPM then starts or if i just put my foot flat down it seems to start abit earlyer,

very confusing really

Not sure there is mate. I also live in Stoke and am struggling to find a specialist locally to carry out servicing/performance mods.

Could try GT Motorsports at Sneyd Hill, only other place I can think off is Collins in Congleton? Never used either off them so could not say what they are like to deal with.

I just travel to Scoobyworld at Loughbrough

well i have found out that my brothers neighbour used to own EP motorsport (not sure if you know them, they were on the a50 in normacot)

he is a subaru specialist with all the gear i will go round say hi at the weekned!

well after doing some research on google i found out about this "green plug" under the dash, so i ran that, then plugged in the black wires...... followed the flashes on the dash and ran this 3 times to confirm the code (23) and then read the code up and it turns out to be "Mass Air Flow Sensor Circuit"

so hats off to martin 2010!! good job!

but now to my next question, i did run a cheap hand held diagnostic tool and that would not even pick the car up lol, so to a garage i went, the did a test with a propa kit lol they sed there was no faults!

is the green/black plug diagnostic trick a good working diagnostic tool??

now this "Mass Air Flow Sensor Circuit" would this be the sensor its self or could it be the break in the MAF loom which i seem to poping up quite often??

You would get that fault code as a result of the unplug you performed during diagnostics if you didn't reset the ECU afterwards.

Suggest you start with the basics and fit some new spark plugs and a fuel filter first.

Isn't GT (Mark) collins mapper or he was a while ago, but there are better people in Stoke who I trust more
