Default Boost gauge question

Help needed, can anyone advise me on what to do with my boost gague I have checked everything and it seems ok. What should I do to get it back working here is some Picts

In the last photo the pipe is off my dump valve so that u can see where the wires are going to the boost gague any help would be great. Could the sensor in the last pict be the problem?

First pic shows that the two screws holding the gauge face in place are rusty.what's it like inside?

Second pic, what IS that gunge around the sender wiring?
It looks nasty. Have you tried removing it?

should I open up the gauge ? Or sendor ? Where could I find a wire diagram for this? I have looked but I couldn't find anything.
Never noticed the rust on the screws don't know how that got there.

Try and remove that crap around the sender, the whitish stuff.

Have a look at the wires underneath.

The sender looks ok and the wires are ok there is no power at the connection where I plug in the sender so my problem is inside the car. Has anyone got a wire diagram ? I will look in behind the dash.

the power is usaly spliced of the steering colum somewhere, you should be able to follow the wires with the lower dash removed.

As above.
It will need a switched live, MAYBE a permanent live, lighting live and an earth.

Update found the wires and they were not connected to anything now my next problem is where do I connect them I have a live and earth off the lights that sends power to the gauge and it sits at 0 when I give the car a rev it goes down instead of up. I know it was not wired right I was just testing the gauge here is the wires. Anyone know where do I connect these can I work with just a live and earth from the lights ?

If the gauge sits at zerowith the engine running and goes down when you rev it, it sounds like it is working ok. What happens when you go full throttle up a hill in a high gear? does it go positive then? i.e. registering boost? You wont get a positive reading until the turbo is producing.

Poor picture, but the red will be live, the black with terminal will be earth.
The white may be lighting, the brown maybe a switched/permanent live, but the other black???

Look here: http://www.taner.net/s4/boost_gauge/

Red and white connected together to live.
Blacks connected together to earth.
brown left unconnected, (it's for an external warning light).

Expected boost would be around 1 kgf/cm2 it looks like it is not registering max boost or you were not at max boost.

Hold function light is on, believe that is freezing the gauge when you press the button or alternately displaying max boost recorded.

Well now, that depends on the car.

If it's boosting 1.4 bar, it's accurate and never been mapped, I might worry....in fact I WOULD worry.

Standard boost is around 1.1 bar afaik.

All but the same.

1 kgf/cm sq = 0.980665 bar.
