Pull out the pipe carefully from the fuel filter. Get a empty bottle & run the pipe inside. Once you have done that turn the ignition on to see if any fuel is coming out of the pipes.

Really you should be able to hear the fuel pump priming without doing the above.

As above really, You should normally hear the fuel pump prime as the ignition goes live, Near the drivers rear wheel is the best place to listen

Use a rag to catch the fuel. Beware of fuel spilling.

All I removed was the lower dash above drive side knee and I had a feel behind cluster to see and feel if anything was disconected as the fuel gauge dose not seem to be working properly .... That's all that was moved ... I'm guessing as I have fuel and air I need to check that I'm getting spark is there anything around dash area that could affect this ?

Check all the earthing & ignition area under steering wheel column. Maybe something has got disconnected.

There are a few ways to check for spark, some are abit dangerous.

I'm starting to get abit annoyed with this project now ! I just constantly seem to be getting problems.

Ok so fuel pump is working ! Tested at both ends of fuel filter it's going in and out the other side, and I have now check for spark which is good.

I've been doing some looking up didn't some imprezas have a factory imobiliser.. I cannot see 1 fitted not that I no what it would look like? My 1 and only key is too slim to have any sort of device in it .... Either way it has been working fine since I put the engine in .. Just seems abit strange the motor is firing 1 min and not 20 min later

My keys look normal, but the plastic tops have a very small hole in their lower edge, closed off by a rectangular piece of plastic.
Inside it is the chip that talks to the ecu.

My fob is about 1mm thicker than my key I really cannot see there been a chip inside it..I no mine is a 98 /99 import and I've seen a lot of issues recently talked about but I really think mine has no imobiliser, my key has no holes either ..

But I'm running out of ideas why my car would just stop firing ?

Dont know what else it could be. Worth doing the ECU diagnostic & maybe even try kick starting it.

Could it be crank or cam sensor or maf ? ... I've been told I wouldn't get spark if the crank sensor had gone do u no if this is right cos if if is I can rule it out ??

When u say diagnostics I guess u mean the black connectors under dash, if it is I've tried and I'm getting nothing .. Just steady flash

pull the plugs out and check the gaps, put the plugs in the end of the lead and rest the threaded area on an earth to check the plugs are actually sparking one by one.

If they are ok then check the connections to crank and cam sensors, they can be bought for a £5 off ebay or here contact one of the breakers on here.

There are also a couple of fuses in the under bonnet fuse box that are for cam and crank, big yellow ones i think, i know they are in the middle towards the front on a newage but not sure on a classic if its the same, but they are there and worth checking they are in tact.
