Default Can you put ignition on without ecu being installed?

Hi all,

Is it safe to put ignition on to prime the fuel pump without ecu being in or will the car just do nothing? I've sent off the simtek for mods so it works with wideband but I need to test the fuel system shortly once I get my reg back from the states...I just need to prime the system and see if it holds 3 bar pressure for minutes not seconds once the pump stops.
