DUMP VALVE / BOV HELP
hi all, right quick question and i should imagine you'v heard it a 1000 times but here goes anyway, ive just purchased a uk classic 1997 turbo wagon and i want to put a dump valve on it, i see alot of people dont like them or think you should use one but i kinda like the sound, ive had a 4 subaru turbo's before but they have all been imports so obviously the intercooler is different on the uk model so the dump vale goes on the other end, i know where is sits when fitted(see pic) but is it as simple as cutting the hose, fitting the valve and putting a bung in the other end, also before i order the valve do i want recirc or atmospheric, one other thing quickly, if you see the picture below there is a red block thats acting as a 3-way running off the actuator, is it doing anything other than working as a 3-way t piece as i recall i had a manual boost controller in that sort of place on one of my imports, thanks for your help in advance ;-)

Yeah, you can cut that pipe to fit a VTA DV - clamped with another jubilee clip.
...Then you'd need to remove the OEM DV (and the remainder of that recirc hose attached to it)... then plug the recirc intake on the turbo intake pipe.

The best recirc replacement is Forge's one for a MY97/98. It is of the correct pattern i.e. the input and reirc's ouput are at 90-degree to each other, so it will be a simple swapover job. Only problem is, it's expensive...
Subaru Impreza MY97/98 Piston Ram Closed Loop Dump Valve
And yeah, for ANY DV/BOV to work correctly, there must be the vac pipe form the inlet manifold to the DV/BOV vac nipple.

Is there actually anything wrong with your car's current original one? 'Cause if not, then you're not gaining anything by fitting one i.e. it doesn't give you extra performance or anything.
The Forge one (all metal) comes into its own at high boost levels, as its materials/construction means it's less likely to split (or possibly leak whilst on boost). That's the only potential benefit it'll give... Aside from looking nice.
