Default Oil pressure

What pressure should I be seeing at cold idle, warm idle, cold driving and then warm driving? It's a forged 2.5 with a 11mm modified oil pump.

Cheers in advance.

So if it's idling at 3.5 then when warm I'm guessing there something wrong?

Mine is at about 35-40psi when idling, so 2.5 - 3 bar on a mildly mapped WRX.

Cold start around 95-100 psi(6.5-7bar)
Fully warmed up around 40 psi(2.75 bar)
WOT around 85-90 psi(6 bar)

2.0 JDM Spec-C standard

I have know cars run lower than this with no issues, Has it dropped since being built?

So I'm guessing it's a mine field then as all cars will be different?

It wont be 5.8 bar at fully warm idle, Sounds right for when warm and on the loud pedal though

Not really a mind field mate, standard motor/pump should see around 1.5-2 bar pressure on hot idle and modified pumps/motor should see around 2-3 bar.
Anything over 3 bar and I'd say you have a relief valve problem or blockage some where in the engine.
That is at idle though,my own forged lump with modded pump see's 2.8 bar idle and 6.5 while driving once hot ie 85-90'c oil temp.

The higher the warm idle is the better the oil pressure you have and to be honest 3.5 bar is very good so i would`nt be worring about it

Those figures are almost exactly waht my 2.5 fully forged engine runs.

Hot tickover is around 3 bar, with just under seen when the engine is VERY hot.

just fitted gauges in mine and getting 14 psi warm idle and 80-90 psi when driving.seems some very high readings from people on here for psi at idle seeing as subaru quote 14 psi @ 800 rpm and above 45 psi over 5000 rpm.

The figures I quoted are with uprated oil pump mate so should be higher than standard.

That is quite a common problem,it can lower the pressure over a sustained period and cause a ig end failure like you suffered, not good.

Good idea there, most pumps have lock thread on the screws now to stop the problem.
Got a bit of a project going myself

doing cambelt next month and going to whip pump off and loctite the screws.
going to build new engine with lots of goodies on it for use next year as going to spend this year learning to drive properly on track etc and concentrate on brakes and handling.

Very good idea as it would be pointless to have a car that go's well and not be able to use it to it's full potential.

14psi is only 1bar

That seems VERY low for tickover?

My standard engine which eventually let go ran over 2 bar tickover hot.

i would say 14psi or 1 bar at hot idle is extremely low?? in fact i have never heard of a reading that low!

get around 30-35psi or 2.5 bar hot idle.

That is what my spec c reads near standard with only a 3 port, panel filter, exhaust and map

I guessing here but did the spec c come with an uprated oil pump? It has an oil cooler and uprated anti surge fuel pump as when I plumbed my gauges in it was a bit higher than I thought it would be, Happy days

I would get it checked out to be safe mate as 14 psi is low IMO, what oil are you using?

funny how subaru themselves state in their workshop manuals that it should be 14psi @800 rpm hot idle and 45psi + above 5000 rpm.seems a lot of people have very high readings due to uprated pumps or some sort of blockage etc...

dont take it personally but nearly every person on here has quoted higher readings (some on standard cars) so i very much doubt majority of people with these readings have blockages, i dont run any uprated pump and the engine is freshly rebuilt

i understand what the manual is saying but in this instance i would be more inclined to suggest other peoples readings as a measure, theres loads of threads on this to and again i have never seen a reading of 14psi hot idle in any of them.

might just be worth getting it checked JUST to be safe?

Yup thats the minimum requirment 14psi. Mine for instance is 2.5bar hot idle and has been for the past 10years so i doubt theres a blockage. Your are right in the limits of the min it maybe worth an oil pump check or change. or if youve just installed the guage it maybe not reading correctly

going to get it checked tomorrow after work.only just fitted gauges so dont know how accurate they are yet.car is quiet as a mouse and as soon as you touch the accelerator the pressure goes up nice and quickly.

had it checked today and running 13 psi which is low.found new oil leak from front crank seal as well so oil pump coming off to check as been told that screws in rear plate of pump have probably come loose and letting oil push past crankcase oil seal.this killed my last engine after 61k so will be checking and loctiting the screws.bugger...
