help a newbie.possible power valve problem
Hi. after years of wanting i have finally bought a Scooby
its a 1995 impreza wrx auto japanese import.
my problem
at high revs the throttle cuts out for half a second and then clears, it only happens at high revs and is not an issue during normal driving. i bought the car with this problem and want to know what you guys think as i dont want to throw money away on wrong parts etc.
it has been suggested its a power valve problem, however i'm not very technically minded and would appreciate some advice from people who know
their subarus
any suggestions appreciated.

It ciould also be the spark plugs, if they are worn or to hot a grade they can and will cause missing at higher boost levels.
I would recommend NGK PFR7B's , and it is a job you can do yourself with some basic tools (from the top, more work), or at a hobby/DIY garage (or on ramps)
The former will take more time, the latter would need ramps, or a lift, but takes much less time.

Right, to start with you need to find out what modifications your car has, ie decat exhaust (easy enough to tell, it wont have a cat in the downpipe), is the backbox and centre section a stainless jobbie?
What fuel are you running?
Is there a boost gauge fitted?
Replace the plugs like Dutch said, you dont need the 7's, 6's will suffice (remembering its an auto so less power than the manuals).
You also need to inform your insurance co of any modifications you find, ignorance does you no favours if you have an accident.
Saloon or wagon also??

If it is over boosting and have fuel cut you WILL know about it. It feels someone has slammed the brakes on for a second and you are about to headbutt the windscreen. If it isn't doing that and just misfiring at hi revs plugs and or coil pack might be the problem.
Plug are a rather fiddley to change but can be done DIY. Have a look here

If you are getting fuel cut you can try cleaning the boost solenoid
