Default error code 53???

got this error code on my 97 uk impreza any ideas?

so fuel pump? fuel is being pumped still though as i took the pipe of the filter and started it definatly pumping

No, 53 is not the fuel pump, it is the immobiliser. Your check engine light should be blinking half second on / half second off.

So what do i need to do ive got a new ignition barrel with key and ecu from same car ignition code was on but has now gone but 53 is still there and i cant start car

yeah ithe engine light is doing that so how do i fix it?

You'll need to diagnose exactly what the problem is. Either the key does not match the ECU, or there is something wrong with the communcations between the key and the ECU (e.g. wiring, immobiliser module, etc, etc)

i got the key and ecu from the same car so that should be ok but ive got the same immobiliser unit in my car i had from the start do i need the immobiliser unit from the other car??

No, the codes are compared between the chip in the key and the code stored in the ECU for a 97/98 car. The immobiliser unit just provides the communications link between them.

So something is dodgy there then?? There is an old meta alarm fitted still with wires to the ignition they could be in immobilise

you dont have too look at everything thats on the list just the code 53 which is 8 diff things and all you need to do is check them if they are all ok and then if still not working you can call someone to take a look at it.

im not sure where to start as i dont know half the things.
the fuel pump is pumping as it should key and ignition and ecu were from a working car so whats left?

immob unit?

Code 12 was up aswell and is now gone sonce fitting ecu and ignition barrel
