Default MAF Location Question

Hi all,

Does the MAF sensor have to be a certain distance from the turbo or from the air filter? Or can it be anywhere along the pipe that connects the 2?

I have just bought a hard pipe with a mounting location for a maf and a k and n filter but will need to chop pipe about to get the moosiv filter in the engine bay lol

Thanks
Lewis

OK, first question........why?

Have you:
a) been advised to fit the K&N filter by a reputable engine mapper/builder?
b) had the car mapped for it so it has to go on?
c) fitted an FMIC so the panel filter will no longer fit?

If the answer to all three is "no", then why junk the well-performing panel filter?
depending on what car, you risk damage to the MAF and THAT can lead to engine failure.

I will be fitting a FMIC so have to bin standard set up.

All parts will be fitted the day prior to mapping session.

The pipe I have got I is for a newage impreza and it lines up perfectly at present where the original hose does I would assume is for a HKS mushroom filter but I have a KandN from a previous car but will need to shorten the pipe. The kandn has a mounting brave which will be fitted to keep movement to a minimum.

This is all on a bug wrx

Not had much experience with maf sensors always ran a map sesnor.

Thanks

Distance shouldn't matter Lewis, if you are getting remapped it should matter even less.
