I am running a stock turbo with full 3" decat, green panel filter and remap to 1.5 bar and all is well.

1.5 is fine, the car has been mapped to it's theoretical limit now.... you wouldn't put any more than 1.5 bar through the STD turbo.

Boosting to 1.5 bar and tailing off to 1.2 is pretty standard procedure

OEM ECU can run 1.65 bar without changing the map sensor

Unlikely to get more than 353bhp on standard turbo, not true figures.

The turbo wont hold boost so the peak will be a lower rpm than peak power, more boost will increase torque but it wont give more power as the boost will tail off to the same as it is currently at peak power. It may actually reduce the power as the heat generated with higher boost in the midrange may cause timing to need to be removed at higher rpm.

Its finding a happy medium between torque and power that makes for a quick car, boost doesnt necessarily mean more power.

Bigger turbo time

You will need more than just a turbo for 400.

Does seem laggy, maybe you have a header leak

Agreed the Blob STI turbo is good for no more than 350bhp and 1.5 bar, after that you start running out of the turbo's effeciency range, it will run stupidly hot and you simply won't make power!

4400rpm full boost is very laggy especially when the car has AVC heads etc!!! My bug STI used to hit full boost by 3000rpm!

If you want 400bhp you are looking at injectors, fuel pump, bigger turbo, 3" Exhaust..... I think you are pretty safe with the top mount provided you don't want to do VMAX runs.

£300+vat to map from scratch or it is possible I mapped it in the first place as I did map for tsl for a while. So will have the current map so looking at £75 to 150+vat if I have the map depends on how long we take etc.

Pm me the reg and I will check.

If you don't have a header leak you need to think seriously about the uppipe you are using. 4400 rpm is very late spool and providing there is no leak this is possibly attirbutable to the headers and uppipe.
