Default Strange sound on boost?????????

Cars a 2002 sti
turbo is a md231t
mapped by simon (jgm)

Cars been running fine since remap a few weeks ago but Got a very starnge sound from the car... really bugging me now, noticed it a couple of weeks ago, seems to be getting louder...

Sound is just like the noise one of these makes...

usually starts between 2750 and 3100 rpm (depending on gear, load etc), and lasts for about 500 revs, roughly as the boost comes in, if you fettle the throttle i can get the noise to increase and decrease

Dont know if this is connected but is running rough tonight, feels like its missing slightly, was fine all day, just been for a run down the motorway, came off and the thing didnt feel right.. will take it out later and try again... but like i say dont know if they are related..

Any ideas please?

Compressor surge. Normal if just a noise, if really bad surge the car will hold back.

It was only a noise when I mapped it and the quickest spool I could get, if it is now worse and you can feel the surge let me know and I will adjust.

Any issues just drop me a line.

Simon

cheers simon, only seems to be getting worse, but you know how it is, once you realise something it becomes worse in your head.. as for the running rough it only happened when i came off the motorway, will check later on, may just be a coincidence, but just incase, if it doesnt get better - you say its bad, how so do i need to drive it with a light foot untill i can meet up with you?
just a thought, could it be the plug lead coming loose, as one of them was a crap fit if you remember?

Oh maybe not surge then.

Leak on intercooler pipe or downpipe or uppipe gasket buzzing?

No the coilpack lead the clip on the plug was missing/broken so it was cable toed in place.

hum, just a thought but could a slight leak be the cause of the anti-lag changing? if so this may be the answer do you think?

also just to confirm, a leak would result in stuttering on acceleration?

Oh just had a thought, on the motorway today had a very anoying whoosing noice just below the sterio at around 80mph, sounded like the heater on full blast, turned the blower off but was still there, could this be related?

if it is purely a noise it is probably compressor surge and no issue.. obviously the other symphtoms were related to the coilpack issue..

check it when I see you anyway
