U don't have 2 but it is supposed 2 be better. There r loads of debates on this and I'm not looking 2 argue so going 2 keep it simple. No u don't but u can see better gains if u map it because that way it will compensate for the change in pressure etc. If some 1 does wanna start then there r actual videos of cars on dynos with the different types on vs the rc 1.

Car doesnt need mapping for a dv change.
If the car run carp once you have changed the dv then the dv is faulty, has too soft a spring etc. no mapping will sort this correctly. Yes it can be mapped to drive nicer again but will be down on power as the dv is leaking.
The dv is suppose to remain closed until you come off the throttle and the pressure in the intercooler and pipework exceeds sensible pressure at which point the dv should open and release it and then close again.
Often they open on idle causing hunting or they open on part throttle at low rpm causing massive over fuelling, or they open slightly on boost as they cannot hold the pressure.
So if you change it and the car doesnt run right then change it back. My favourite is no dv at all.
