Default OEM Fuel Filter

At what point does the OEM fuel filter become restrictive in terms of power? Or is it ok up to something like 100000bhp?

Cheers

Probably quite high, but at higher power levels most people have already binned it for a swirl pot/pump/inline filter combo for reliability

TBH i've not been an owner long enough to cut one open to see what they are like inside

Swirlpot/pump/filter is more of an insurance policy than a requirement, a bit of starvation while giving it some could be the end of an engine :'(

A restriction in things like the standard filter/pump would show up during mapping anyway, you'd be asking more of the injectors and they be failing to supply it because it's just not there or you'd notice a drop in line pressure at higher boost levels.

Personally i think once you've rebuild your bottom end forged for power not investing in a reliable fuel system is silly for something which is of a reasonable cost.

I know i've not really answered the Q and gone off on a tangent but hey ho... lol

Oh yeah, I fully agree with you mate!

I'm running 520bhp at the moment, and will be changing the injectors soon to squeeze a bit more out of the turbo, and was just curious when the OE filter becomes an issue as no one really mentions it.

I will be fitting a swirl pot/external pump/in-line filter eventually, but this shouldn't affect mapping in theory so was going to be done after mapping when funds allow. I should do it all together, but don't like waiting for things

If/when i have to do mine i'd probably leave the standard filter in the circuit of the intank pump to swirl pot, 044's really dont like any dirt going through them...

It's in the way, I have a smaller -6 filter on mine...

Fuel Pressure is monitored using a Defi gauge.
