Default Garage has had my car for over a year!

As above really, dont want to go into too much detail as they STILL have my car.

Basically my WRX had an engine problem last year so i decided to get it rebuilt by a supposed specialist, was told at the time it would take 6-8 weeks. Almost 5 months later i finally got the car back, started to run it in carefully as advised but between 900 to 1000 miles later suffered another engine problem. Took it to another specialist for their opinion, they said it needed another rebuild so off it went again as it was under warrenty. Thing is it's been there since may, the whole things took over a year, i'm getting on for £3000 out of pocket and STILL have no car over a year later

Letter time, Friend of mine hasn't seen his car in over 6 months, and thats his VXR which is back at Vauxhall, He's letting his finance company sort it as not fit for purpose after last repairs done under warranty. They rung him the other day saying there going to start charging him storage!

Don't really want to name them yet as they still have my car, when i get it back tho...

It's just one excuse after another, guy hurt his back, was in hospital with flu, built engine but it spun a bearing so had to be rebuilt, couldn't get to work because of snow etc etc. Latest one was it was finished but when they tried to test drive it they couldn't get any gears so it's all coming back out but will def be ready in a fortnight... this was 6 weeks ago, as usual no phone call, nothing.

As for ringing them, when i enquired about getting the work done they were very helpful and spent a good half an hour going through all the options. Now of course it's a different matter, very rarely answer the phone, so bad in fact the only way we can get them is by witholding our phone number. Answer phone messages are pointless as they just get ignored and on the rare occasions the phone does get answered it's usually met with i'll get him to call you back which never happens.

Not just phone calls though, i have a receipt for the work and was told i'd receive a proper invoice with a breakdown of all the parts used when it was finished. Picked the car up after the first rebuild, no invoice because his wife hadn't done it yet but would definately be posted the next day. Surprise surprise, almost 8 months later and still no invoice, the place is a complete joke!

Have you been back to the garage? I would be there every week or so, asking to inspect what they have done. That is insane that they would keep it so long.

Holy ****, that is a right pickle. Name them, because it sounds like they are not going to give your car back in any case!

Thing is the garage is over an hours drive away and i work nights so it's not like i can set up camp outside until it's sorted, although it is highly tempting...

I would have a word with the citisens advice bereax (sp?)

Since the guys quoted you to do the work in 6 weeks then surely they are been unreasonable with getting it complete and back to you.

You wouldnt expect it to spin a bearing on a freshly rebuilt engine :S

I would also advise taking it somewhere else to take the engine apart and find out exactly what has and hasnt been replaced as they may be doing you over!
Is it having a full rebuild from the bottom up?

Might be worth trying to get your car back and try and recover your losses. If these so called "specialists" build an engine that's spun a bearing straight away, do you really want them building another one for you?

If someone told me a job on my car would take 6-8 weeks that would have me concerned at the outset, surely rebuilding an engine is a weeks work tops assuming one experienced bloke on it full time.

If after 12 weeks they'd still not finished I'd be down there with a trailer to take it all back regardless of what state it was in, refuse to pay them anything and find somewhere else to do it. If they wouldn't let you take the car away I'd call the police, it's your property after all so refusing to let you have it back amounts to stealing.

Regardless of which name these clowns to stop other Scoob owners getting caught out. Also the bloke above who's engine lasted two months...

had similar problems with a so called specialist tooks weeks to do a simple job then blew it up on the rolling road telling me the head gasket had gone they rebuilt it same problem stripped and rebuilt again same problem eventually found the problem was a £5.00 rubber gasket. still charged me for the rebuild which lasted 400 miles took it back they refused to do anything with it not there fault they said over 4k out of pocket. it gets better than that as well re engined it and took it to be mapped the plug and play ecu they had fitted was not even wired correctly and was it was also overboosting due to there bad mapping
Engine now rebuilt totally with wiesco pistons steel rods etc by a firm I trust

This is exactly why I do as much work as possible myself - if I fsck it up, at least it's my own fault. I also know exactly what's been done or not been done to the car.

Well after trying to contact the garage again today the landline seems to not be working and answer phone on the mobile number again. So, if Chris from JDM Motorsport is on here or if anyone that knows him can pass the message on, i want my car back by friday or you'll be hearing from my solicitor.

I wouldn't use anyone with a website that looked like that. It's probably IE5 supported
