Probably the MAF if you still have one fitted.

Hi mate,

Had same problem with my 04 WRX recently. Drove fine off boost in lower gears but hesitated in higher gears on boost. Turned out to be spark plugs in the end. Once they begin to fail I am led to believe that the weaker spark is actually 'blown out' when the the turbo spools up which ties in with your problem kicking in at 3000 rpm when the turbo is really starting to spool up. The holding back on mine was fairly subtle. If it is more violent it could be boost solenoid playing up?

Im no expert but did a fair bit of research before I went spending money replacing parts that were still working fine.

Once the spark plugs were changed it was like the difference between day and night.

Hope this helps - let me know how you get on mate.
