Default Can you transfer the whole 'Prodrive pack'

Hi all,

As above, i would like to do a few mods to my car, de-cat exhaust and remap mainly...

Now my 2005 STI has the PPP pack fitted, which includes the ECU, exhaust, and high capacity fuel pump.

I quite like it how it is, but i would like to get a bit more power out of it.

So back to my question, can i sell the PPP as a whole item?
Im not sure whether the standard STI ecu is live mapped or whether its just a generic map that is a chip piggybacked onto the ecu.

Also, does anyone know what sort of money these items go for?

Cheers, Chris

Yes, you could sell the whole lot - the only thing that is a bit tricky is the ECU as the new owner will need to have their keys coded to it (costs ~£50 at a dealer).

STi PPP parts are: intercooler pipe, fuel pump, sports cat downpipe, decat center pipe and backbox.

No idea of cost as a whole or for some of the other parts but backboxes are usually £100-£150 on eBay and decat center pipe would be around £50.

Thanks for the info, its the ecu that puts me off really since i will have to also swap the ecu's over as part of the sale, and still get the keys matched up to it

So its maybe best to just sell my prodrive exhaust as it is, unless mappers can set a map that can be easily removed and put back to the prodrive map. Then i could maybe keep the prodrive exhaust for when time comes to sell the car.

What do you thinks best?

Also what sort of power would you expect from a full exhaust system? and is there any other mods that are worth doing or should be considered before the remap?

Im hoping to get around 340-350bhp but this may require more than just an exhaust.

Coding the keys is pretty easy (takes about ten minutes) ans can be done by a Subaru dealer or an EcuTek mapper.

The mapper should take a copy of your stock map (if they don't already have it) and can reflash it back onto the ECU when it comes to sell.

You should see 320bhp with a 3" turbo back and remap - the turbo is the limiting factor beyond that rather than the exhaust. You may also want to think about FMIC if going any higher.

The car can be mapped and the original stored an saved by the mapper and then when you come to sell it you can get your mapper to flash it back on for you.

320-330bhp is typical output from these with a decent 3" turbo back exhaust and a good filter. Front mount is only really recommended when trying to go for more than 380+ as it has a knock on effect with having to change the original airbox to an induction system. The majority of induction systems on the market or supplied with front mounts tend not to be very well designed, so even though the MAF sensor scaling can be calibrated to best suite a new induction system some don't provide reliable consistent flow through the MAF and idle and low end performance is adversely effected.

My advice is as above really, try and avoid externally venting dump valves as well if you are thinking of changing that.

Hope this helps,

Graham

Cheers Gigsy

I thought that may be the case, i was hoping you could see 350bhp easy enough but a new turbo may be on the cards along with a FMIC

I quite like having the boost coming in fairly early (2.5-3k) would fitting a bigger turbo increase the lag but give better figures over a smaller range?

I didnt think i was going to do much to this car but its far too tempting lol.

Ive heard a bit about dump valves and people saying dont get one and have a re-circ valve instead? not sure if this is standard or aftermarket.

Im not too keen on whistling dumpvalves, but i love a sound of a fluttering turbo on overrun. Would an uprated turbo and re-circ valve give this noise?

Sorry for my huge lack of knowledge here, shes my first turbo.

Before going for the expense of a new turbo, ask yourself if you would really notice the difference between 320/330bhp and 350... starts to get very expensive once turbos and ICs start needing to be changed.

Depends on the turbo a little as to the lag but in general, yes bigger turbo = more lag.

Re dump valve - with a MAF as per std Subaru, a recirculating DV is regarded as being better since you don't lose metered air. On a MAF'less setup, you want to ditch the un-needed boost ASAP so an atmospheric DV is preferred.

If i was to change the turbo/IC id want more like 400bhp. But im not sure if its for me yet.

I would love the power, but i dont want to lose the driveability (to a massive extent) or reliability.
Is a 400bhp impreza still fairly reliable?

What sort of costs would be involved, off my head i thought:
Turbo £1000-1500
IC - £4-500
Remap £4-500
Exhaust £1000

Am i a million miles off? :P

For those that have gone and stuck a new turbo on, please let me know what other parts they have needed to upgrade for reliability.

Also, what sort of price would i be looking at aiming for around 400-450bhp?

If going for 400+, then add fuel pump to the list, plus the fmic will likely require an induction kit of some sort, as the pipes usually occupy the standard air box location. Having said that, your sti tmic is good enough for most 400hp applications, certainly if your car is road only. If going on track a fmic may be worth it.

If you're shooting for 400hp, then your current exhaust is up to it, so probably no need to change. My own car made over 390hp with a 2.5 exhaust, so dont run out and spend a grand on a 3" exhaust if your mapper doesn't explicitly tell you to

Thanks, would the prodrive fuel pump be up to the job?

What turbo would you recommend?
I would like one that will achieve 400bhp but i dont want masses of lag then a burst before the redline, is this possible?

I have a prodrive sports cat and cat back but would it be best to fully decat the whole system?
