Default High idel until warmed up

I've noticed that with the colder weather coming in and the Scob taking longer to warm up that she idles quite high until warmed up.

I've had 4 Scoobs and this is the only one to do it.

Example. From stone cold I'll switch her on and she'll idle at 1500rpm, even after a blip of the throttle. As the water needle gradually creeps up the idle gradually drops. But I thought Scoobs were supposed to idle at around 750rpm regardless or a tiny bit higher when freezing cold?

What would this point to?

Car is standard apart from a Cobra Race tube catback system. Standard recirc valve etc.

TIA

Andy

P.S. when warmed up fully, she sits there lovely at 750rpm or so - sometimes idles around 8-900rpm after a blast? Cheers.

First thing in the morning mine idles a little under 1500 rpm after about 2 mins of driving it's normally dropped to 600rpm ish tho. i do leave it to stand for 30 secs to a min before driving? i assumed that was normal? My old car used to do pretty much the same thing though it didn't warm up as quick

Nothing wrong there choc, the auto choke doing its bit.
That's the reason for having the water circulate through the idle control valve.

Just sure my last classic didn't do it as predominantly. Wonder of the idle control valve needs a clean out. Seems to take a while for the idle to sort itself that's all.

Certainly wouldn't hurt to give it swill through with some engine wash and then take it for a spin to learn its way again once working freely if its holding the revs up longing than it should.

Just had a think back actually to when I did the knock sensor and I wanted to do ot then. Couldn't get the screws out to clean the valve itself so may struggle I can drill them out and re-tap. Hmm... Fun, fun, fun, eh Ryan

i`m more impressed at the idle speeds quoted, 600 and 750, if i had mine idling att hat, it would cut out, mines at a steady 850-1000 depending on how the car feels

any lower and its as lumpy as a sweetcorn turd
