Default Newbie Technical Help Please

Hi to all,

I have a 1993 WRX IMPORT, and have basicaly ended up with my dream car. Its stripped out and since i have had the car i have put in a cage and had a very loud graphics pack up on the car, see pics

Anyway the car will not pick up when going down the box on the motorway, 5th to 4th gear the car just dies like its got no fuel. Also under acceleration it just hits a wall at 4k ish rpm and wont pull through the revs. Pulls fine in 5th, so i am a bit stuck.???

Any advise will be very, very heplfull.

When it dies, do you have youre foot planted right down ?.
Will it pick up with part throttle.
1993 WRX has a boost cut, you may be overboosting.

Hi, part throttle is fine, foot down and it just dies. Bit like hitting a wall, very strange.

Yet when doing 60ish in 5th, plant your foot and its away like its on fire lol???

as it wont rev past 4k( its probably 4.5k) it sounds like your in Limp mode,
try doing a manual check of any fault codes stored in the ECU.

Your turbo makes max boost at about 3800 to 4K, so at this stage its poss to overboost. The dead wall you hit is the ECU of the car stopping the engine to prevent damage.

Get a boost guage fitted, and also do some looking here, I think you need to see if there have been mods done to the turbo actuator, AKA manual boost control and the like.

Take it easy as you dont know the motor, or it will end in tears LOL

Thanks for the advise, limp home mode i am sure it must be. So how would you go about checking for stored ecu codes. Can you buy a fult code reader for this age of car, or is there a more thechical way.
