Angry Urgent help needed! classic impreza

Hi guys, my car ( 94 import wrx that has come from Japan to England and finally to Finland) seems to have some serious cooling issues.

short brief:

1.7.2011 alternator breaks down and sets the fusible link on fire witch results in all the electrics fried out from the inside (and some from the outside aswell)

fusible link, alternator changed and then taken to a ****ty garage. Where they "fix" some electrics with a huge bill

after that I have been fixing stuff myself.
(fuses changed aswell)

Current problems:

-firstly, heater only blew on max settings, so changed the resistor = no blow at all

-before the alternator change the radiator fans were spinning all the time (only stopped when battery was disconnected)
,after the change no spin at all

-went and broke the temp gauge needle on the clocks, so bought a new one, and wont read temp? or the needle wont move at all.

-What is this and where does this part bolt on to?

too long did not read: fans or blower not working nor the temp gauge, help!

ALL HELP IS WELCOME!!

Thanks, James

HI, i am a bit new to these cars to. I have a 1993 WRX jap import to. Had to buy a whole new interior for mine, so have a spare blower unit, ac unit, and other items if you need some bits. You can have them for the cost of the postage if you need them. When i put the electrics in mine i found a few of the wires had earthed out on the bodywork which was causing a lot of the early probems i had with the car. I would disconnect the fan unit, and then get a 12v supply and bridge it to see if the fans run. If they do the problem can only be in the wireing or control unit?

Hi, I have never been good with electrics so I will be having problems even with testing stuff like that. But thank you for the tips and will try to sort something out!

Could it possibly be the engine temp sensor?

Engine temp sensor wont affect the interior blower.

It could maybe be the problem with the radiator cooling fans and the temperature gauge.

The thing in the picture looks like it could be a relay and will fix up under the dash somewhere, jus tape or cable tie it out of the way.

i would change the temp sensor on the water rail mate it is sending a signal to your ecu telling it ,its over heating and it goes into safe mode and puts the fans on,if you dissconect the bat on the car and depress the food brake to disscharge the circut the reconnect bat back up in 30 mins this will reset your ecu mate

Hi, not a chance of doing that as I am a student and those things cost way too much over here.

I will be changing the temp sensor tomorrow, and come back with results.

It looks like it would channel power to something, as the part seems to be brass or something? Could that be possible?

****ty garage may have connected the 2 green plugs under the dash? That would keep the fans running.

Check the wiring harness that runs from left to right under the radiator -quite often it becomes unclipped and melts on the exhaust headers causing all sorts of electrical problem including the fans running all the time.

head gaskets are okay, and I tested the fans by connecting the green connectors under the steering wheel.

what could be the problem that they dont spin without the green ones connected?
