More Boost / Remap
#1
I'm new to turbo cars and want to uprate my 97 turbo wagon. Can anybody clarify the following for me:
1) If I up the boost without remap(Is this via a boost clamp?) will I see much of a performance gain? I would have thought this would have been bad for the engine as the same amount of petrol would be used and the car would run hotter?
2) Are remaps without increased boost any good? Surely we need more boost to take advantage of the richer map?
3) Are the best power / tourqe increases seen from a combination of both?
4) Is there an upgrade that will do both for me?
Sorry to ask the obvious questions, but this stuff isn't so obvious when your new to it!
Cheers,
Rob

Increase boost by:
1) fit a boost gauge to monitor whats going on (can recommend SPA)
1) install a Dawes Device or similar
2) fit a fuel cut defender for boost above 14.5psi ish.
3) Enjoy the difference!!
Boost set to about 16 psi held seems the current wisdom.
Fuelling is plenty rich enough to cope in most cases.
A re-map will liberate more power and make engine run more smoothly - e.g. EcuTek.

Rjben, lots of ways to skin a cat.You can also have fuel and boost computers,or fully mappable replacement ECU.Depends on the amount of money you want to spend and how much power.
