Default Help oil changed , smoking

Hello guys new to the forum, My First suburu,I have just changed the oil in my suburu its a 2001 and running around 300. - have replaced the oil using gulf competition 10\40 ester based oil recomended by opie oils. Now when I start the car it blows out some smoke for a few seconds then stops. The previous oild used was 10-40 semi synthetic and did not smoke. ANy ideas of what this could be or what I should do.

You don't say the mileage of the car?
With a high mileage engine, going from a semi-syn to a fully-syn is not always recommended.
The system holds 4.5 litres, did he dump a whole 5 litre can in there?
