Default 97RON vs 99RON

hi,my 98 sti type r will be back in for turbo change and remap soon, although the v power is a bit of a pain to get hold off i have come to the conclusin that a 10 mile trip once a week to fill the tank is worth the gains.
spec of car....
sti9 jdm motor
v4 type r heads.
h&s sports cat downpipe
440 inj
walbro
hybrid fmic
rcm induction
pfr7b plugs
h&s bacbox
apexi power fc
vf24
car was mapped to 319/280.(97ron)

im now going to replace oe centre section for a straight through pipe and fit a almost brand new ihi vf48 turbo.

id like to get 340/320(approx)
this is a good turbo that can make the power,im not intending to upgrade injectors as i dont want to run more power than the gearbox can take, although i do realise im moreless at the limits but have heard of people running alot more power/torque on the dccd 752 box.

what are your thoughts regarding wether i can achieve this power from the new mods on 97 ron fuel?
or will it need to be mapped for 99 vpower to see this power and torque?
i dont mind if the torque is anything over 300,but would like to see 340 or very close to it in power............

any advice gratefully appriciated as always.

If your making the effort and filling it up with vpower then you may as well map it on vpower.

I have considered having the car mapped on 97 as its a pain in **** getting vpower for me

im actually using 97 ron at the minute but have decided if i need to get vpower to reach desired target then i would be wiiling to go 10miles a week to fill the tank, rather than stick 20 quids in at the garage with is on my doorstep.
im just trying to find out wether it will need v power to hit the 340/320?
if 97 ron can do it then all the better......

be aware of supermarket fuels , they dont always give the octane levels they claim , i work in the service of fuel pumps and a few years ago we had a leading supermarket fuel tested , and reg unleaded 95ron was found to have 91 octane

do you think it will make the power on 97 tho?
i think you can get 20 odd bhp increase between the fuels??
its all about ignition timing?
dont want to be dissapointed if it dosent make the power on 97.

This good test of fuels, but bear in mind this is just on unmapped cars, with right mapping difference will be different.

Second mine thoughts, really depends on your feeling and mainly i would ask too your mapper what he think about this and from this i would go.

happy days prob best to ask rich then but imo i think you will still get the numbers on 97 as you got 319 on your vf24 and like you said you dont wanna be eating gearboxes every month.

It does not make a great deal of difference as your mapper will get the best out of your car depending on the octane rating of the fuel you are using.A decent 97m ron fuel will give you good performance gains ,but your not going to lose much by not using 99 ron.

you say that,but..we would have got no doubt 330 if not a little more out of the vf24 if it had been mapped on v power.

i know the 440s wont go past 340 ish so i might just just stick with 97ron and hope the new vf48 pulls 340,i would think if it dosent,it will be pretty damn close.
if it only makes 330 with 97 ill be enoyed at myself for mapping with the wrong fuel!

id like to think not but afaik theres a general theory that the ty752 is ok up to 300/300 and the ty754 350/350 ,read lots of people running a bit more through them though and lasting ,think its how you treat them and fingers crossed
think the ty754vbaaa box out sti5/6 p1 could be ok for quite a bit more ?
whats your dccd box good for any ideas ?

yes,the 752 dccd box has strengthened lower gears but is still fairly fragile.
p1 dosent have the dccd either.

ive heard of quite a few people running 350+lbft on the 752dccd box with no issues.
my gearbox will be treated very well.
