Don't think 5 speed box will hold out well, also if you have it mapped at low boost to preserve engine and box you would just have a laggy car for no real reason would be much better mapped on smaller turbo 16g would make most of what you have and be much better drive

Launching or smashing through gears isn't being very sympathetic lol
With the close ratio box I was always in the power band, acceleration was very quick it felt pretty rapid TBH.
I'm not saying you will get away with it though, it might last a day, week month but it will go sometime thats for sure, previous use has alot to answer for as well.

ive got an 18g on my v4 sti ra and its an awesome turbo, very responsive, the 20g is only better at 7k plus, the 18g beats it power and torque wise all the way upto those revs. my gearbox is still ok and ive been doing some sprint type events and i rag it including launches

20G on a V4 with standard internals @ 405bhp & a TY754 box with hard launches & not had a problem. Hookie ran the same power through it too & god knows what power Banny ran it at before him..!
It's torque that kills things & the 20G isn't very torquey..

Not even a lottery on the gearboxes, enough TY754's have gone with 300lbs of torque through them, that includes STI boxes with hardened gear sets, then your engine really does have its life reduced running above 350bhp, the rods are weak and tend just to let go, you dont even have to be ragging it, just cruising down the road will do it, pop, bang, smoke, fire even, and classics are reknown not to have strong rods again its luck of the draw but its also big borrowed time.
I would stick with a nice responsive turbo and run 340/350bhp, you will just obliterate these big laggy turbo'd cars on the road, especially in the twisty stuff where you need the quick pick up

As everyone says a nice minimum lag 350hp car is pretty balanced.
If I did it again I'd just buy a GT30 & not bother with journal bearing turbos.
Just my thoughts

Mines running 340/320 on standard vf23 turbo and box. No probs so far.
Dont see the point in getting a more laggy 18g or 20g just for a few more horses.
Especially if you have standard internals.
