230 white has 3 -4 different shades,so each 230 car can be either of these,it varies from a more yellow white to a bright white (Not Glacier white, thats that 51e code)
i have a bootlid from another 230 white car and at some times in the day when cleaned,it is brighter than the side panels, but not really noticeable.
only way is to match the part up when buying

yeah,it depends where you look, google glacier white 51E.
I go by the actual paint code rather than its associated name
some countries call 230 glacier white others call 51E Glacier/aspen white etc whereas we call it pure white.
as long as you state the colour code its a better margin for error LOL
Also, its not about how its faded over time,230 feather white doesnt seem to fade, but if its the yellower tone to start with, theres no matching it upto a whiter 230 colour.
ive had a few things touched up,wahay and had this hassle before, my car is colour tone 3 out of the 4 colours the guy had,yet some places just have 1 colour tone, halfords for 1 ! (well,my local one does, its the yellower of them, there is one that has a tinge of too much blue as well, that was fun !

At work I have colour samples of all or nearly all Subaru colours via ICI Autocolour and I believe you can retrieve formuale of most of the big paint companies websites.
As has been mentioned by The Rig each white although the same colour code has different formulaes so you get the right paint code but a slightly different shade (found this out on my Type R recently)
