Default Seen this subaru STI for sale, after some help!

Hi all, new to the site so hello all

Im looking into purchasing a subaru wrx sti blob eye and ive come across this which seems pretty cheap but i just want to ask for some more info on the car...

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...22px?logcode=p

now the car seems in good condition overall, but looking at the photo under the bonnet the intercooler doesnt have 'STI' written on it. Can anybody tell me if this is a non standard part? or maybe a cooler from the wrx model?

Also, whats the blue thing bolted onto the front of it? isthis some sort of blow off valve or something?

Sorry for the lack of knowledge, but hopefully some of you guys can help me out.

Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks not a bad price, That is a Blow off valve on the intercooler its possible that the engine bay has been steam cleaned and thats has taken the STi off the intercooler.

There are cheaper ones out there though if you shop around.

Hi m8 certainly seems to have all the right bits for an sti looking at photos anyway. Yes blue valve on intercooler is d/ valve. Not sure why it doesnt have sti stencil though.

Thanks for the info guys, hopefully its just been steam cleaned!
I will ask when i give them a call.

There seems to be a few popping up but the good ones do go quick, especially the 2005 model. Ive just gotrid of my dc5 so im itching to get one asap, but i want it to be in mint condition so willing to shop around

Do you know what make the dump valve is?
I dont know a great deal about them but ive heard they can mess up the air/fuel ratio?

Is there anything else i should be looking out for when going to view/test drive one of these?

Finally, does the exhaust look like a s/s aftermarket on?

Cheers

as long as the dimensions for the intercooler are the same as an sti then it should perform equally. the DV looks like a turbosmart, as long as it is mapped properly then there should not be an issue. listen for clunking/knocking from the rear shocks over bumps. as for loads being around that does seem to be the case as the running costs can be a little bemusing. loads still being sold on here by enthusiasts! just be aware that most independant car dealers offer little warranty. the asking price is fair from a dealer but you could get sooooo much more for your money on a private sale. either way, when you get it you should never look back. enjoy it!

Thanks ppp, i agree about getting one privately owned. I think im going to go see the car anyway, mainly for a test drive (ive only had a little go in a hawkeye as of yet) but if it turns out to be a minter i may try get the price down a little.

Theres no mention of a remap, or any modding at all so im a little apprehensive about the car itself. I would much rather buy one off an enthusiast so i will keep checking the classifieds section on here

yes it is also an aftermarket SS exhaust, although it could just be the Bbox

i will certainly try and find out

The cars been up for sale for a few weeks now, so its either just too expensive or there may be problems, since others like it seem to be snapped up quickly!

Just to check, when you p/x a car at a garage do they keep you as the registered owner or transfer it to the garage? or would that only be done if the garage had to carry out some sort of work on the car?
Im pretty sure they dont transfer it so i should be able to contact the previous owner from the details on the v5 documents?

The intercooler looks a bit small for an STI one, and just to the left I`m sure i can see the mounting bracket where an STI one would bolt on to. And no black breather pipes along the front of it.

My thoughts also certainly looks like a WRX intercooler to me with some missing elements and interesting pipe connections

by the looks of it, it looks like the metal pipes have been replaced with a rubber hose, you would normally do this when you fit a front mount intercooler. Maybe the car has previously been tuned and running a front mount and when the guy returned the car to standard to sell it, he got stingy and put a wrx top mount on rather than the more expensive sti one.

sounds like a good call tazz. If thats the case it wouldnt put me off massively as i would maybe want to run a FMIC to help with cooling, but its always somethign i could use to bring the price down.

Im going to try and get in touch with the previous owner because it looks like it may have had a few things done, he could even be an enthusiast that p/x'd it for something else from that garage, who knows...

Is it possible to find out the registered keeper just by the REG number? or will i have to speak to the garage and ask to see the documents?

Uk Sti does not come with a strut brace only the Jdm models come with strut brace standard and that intercooler is a wrx one and the metal breather pipe is missing of intercooler .Seems cheap for a uk sti model with those miles
