Default need help asap, mappers/knowledge

I have had a problem since I bought my car 4 week ago, it hits fuel cut?? I know why and how to solve the problem thanks to some great advice from people on here..

spec of my car: MY98, V4 uk spec, phase 1.5
-vf43 turbo
-walbro 255
-full blitz nurspec
-hks filter

It is hitting fuel cut because of the bigger turbo and the fact that the car can't be mapped because of the 8s ecu.

Advice was get a upgraded ecu!!!

I HAVE MANAGED TO BAG A APEXI FC and commander. This has been mapped by Andy Forrest on the road...

Better still by luck alone the map is for a car with the same mods inc turbo

My main concerns are the injector sizes, his had 440cc I dont know what mine has, what would they be as standard on my car, if they are that is???

Other thing is, will the car start straight up without problems to do with imobiliser/keys etc

can some one advice as I am suppose to be picking up in the morning

regards tom

380cc injectors on yours as standard. You need 440's from a 99> plus a Carl Davey fitting kit to allow them to be fitted to your fuel rails/car.

Your lucky you havent blew your car sky high already!!!!

It will need mapping regardless of whether spec the same or not, but should just be a tweak rather than a full map.

However you need to be 100% sure it is the same.

UK and Sti maf are different diameter along wth as has been said the injector sizes are different.

I wouldnt fit it and drive off boost as you are on the standard ecu until you can get it mapped.

it matters not, it will need a tweak..

you can take an apexi off a standard car mapped to it and put it on another standard car and it will need tweaking.. they are all different..

you fit it you are more likely to kill the engine than you are with the standard ecu as it doesnt have knock control on the apexi.

Yes if your car is a 3plug and ecu a 3plug it will fit

Always have the car mapped. Even 2 identical engine builds with identical turbos etc will not run the same. If the map is not adjusted to suit your specific car then it could be causing damage and you may find your engine will not last long!

As above, get it mapped.

Bob Rawle is brilliant, and he's up at Darlington, (istead of Swindon), this coming weekend, drop harvey, on here a PM to get a slot, and tell him what you want done.

phew lol

if you post a pic (think you did elsewhere?) of you cars ecu and the apexi i should be obvious but we can check.

150 for a tweak or 250 for a complete map.

I'm just going to re-iterate what has been said so far just to be different . The plug arrangement should be 3 yellow plugs in the car and should be the same 3 plug arrangement on the Apexi, (only they will be grey).

It will definitely need to be fully remapped to suite the car. I don't think I've yet found a fully mappable ecu like the Apexi or a Simtek that was prior remapped that hasn't needed a lot of work to make it right. One recently, mapped by a trader on here was pretty good on boost at the boost level set but there were 3 other boost levels that were programmed in that the fueling and timing were completely wrong at. In addition to that the start up and cruise map was incredibly rich and the mapper was reliant on the closed loop lambda trying to reign in the fueling, which was fighting a loosing battle really!

Genuinely though, if all it needed was a tweak I would charge accordingly, but that hasn't yet been the case!

Incidentally, mapping is £275, (until end of Sept), including dyno time at Silverstone Autosport in Deeside.

Hope this helps,

Graham

Thank you for all replies... I can assure you I wouldnt be daft enough to just stick a ecu on my car and think it will run it lol..... I have been offered several deals on ecu's and mapping? I was offered a ecutek off a 99 with 3 plugs but dont think that will work on mine right????

Also the apexi and commander is a reasonable price as well.... just hoping he still has it monday

All the mappers on here are really keen to help and it is much appreciated.

One more thing my injectors on my car are grey this I assume mean they are the standard 380cc
